Nationwide Refer a Friend & 5% Interest - previous bonuses years ago

I switched to a FlexDirect account over six years ago, getting the refer a friend bonus & 5% for a year, as my partner referred me. I closed the account over 5 years ago. We have moved house in the mean time.

We know we can get the 5% interest again through an account in my partner's name or in joint names. But have a few questions...

1. Can he get the switching bonus if someone refers him? He has obviously received a bonus for referring me, but has never been referred.

The t's and c's say "If the recommended friend has received a payment under any other Nationwide Recommend a Friend offer, then they are not eligible to receive a payment under this offer."

It doesn't specify if the previous payment is for being referred or for referring someone else, so I would assume either. But I have read of people doing this previously on the forum, i.e. husband refers wife then wife refers husband and they bag £400. Does it still works with the current t's & c's (since Feb 2018)?

2. Can he refer me again, given how long ago it was? The t's & c's say no, but how far back they actually check is another question. Has anyone tried and were you successful?

3. Similarly with the 5% interest, website says "If you’ve had a FlexDirect before, you won’t receive this offer again, unless your new FlexDirect account is in a different name or names." But how far back do they actually check? Has anyone managed to get the 5% again since they brought in this rule?

If the answer to qu 1 is yes, then I'll be wanting to open a new account anyway to refer him. So I figure I might as well try 2 & 3 to see if I get lucky.

Yes. You can open an account and refer him. You should both get the ref bonus.

2 & 3: Don't know; let us know the outcome if you try it.

Thanks soulsaver, I thought he probably could, but the t's & c's suggest not, I think its just a case of poor wording.

I'll probably open a normal FlexAccount to start with and see whether I get the RAF bonus. Then think about whether to upgrade to FlexDirect later.

Will post back & let you know how it goes...

FTAOD the bonus is paid for your referred friend (partner in this case) switching in an account, when s/he hasn't been paid a bonus before for doing so.

There's a referrers bonus of which you can have 5 per year.

There's a (referred) switching bonus of which you can only have once.

You've had the switching bonus and can't have another, but you can have 5 referral bonuses.

He's never had a switching bonus... so he can have one, so you can refer him. He gets a legal switcher's bonus; you get a legal referrer's bonus.
