Smart Meter - EDF

Could really do with some advice... I moved to a electricity only property in March 2019. When I switched supplier from EOn to EDF (my previous supplier) it became apparent that my meter was faulty. EDF came in and replaced the meter with a Smart meter...which was also faulty! It wasn’t until Dec 2019 that I had any idea on my costs or usage. It turns out that the meter they installed was a E10 on a Standard Variable high rate - this is the only tariff they apply to an E10 meter. The lower off peak 10 hours runs from 9pm to 7am....which you can appreciate when I’ve needed to heat the house on colder days is costing me a fortune. I have taken this to the Ombudsman, which has all been a farce to be frank. My current situation is that I am in a position to insist on a E7 meter installation which would give better tariff options and easier to switch supplier going forward, or try to switch on the E10 meter in situ. Can anyone point me in direction of a E10 supported service that has decent fair rates, and operates its off peak times more realistically?

Sadly you've made a big mistake by going electricity only. Decent fair rates for E10 don't exist; it's being phased out and there's not a competitive market.
If it's impossible to get gas or to move, the least worst option will probably be to make do with E7. Depending on your lifestyle, well insulated adequately dimensioned storage heaters may be the answer, but they will be expensive to install. Ordinary panel heaters may suffice if you're out all day, or a heat pump system may be an alternative, but nothing will be ideal.
If you search the forum for E10, Economy 10 etc you'll find many similar threads. Sorry to be gloomy, but that's the reality...0 -
Need some clarification
What tariff were you on with Eon ?
Was the original meter an ECO7 meter ?0 -
Something’s off here. There’s no such thing as an E10 smart meter. The whole point is once it’s installed it can be updated over the airwaves to be what ever meter type you need.
There are 5 terminal meters designed for houses for separate heating circuits but I didn’t think any has passed testing yet. Even If you had one of these it shouldn’t stop you switching from e10 to ec7 OTA
Regardless of this Edf offer totalising on every meter type. You can access every standard meter tariff, there’s no need to be on E10 standard variable.
Have you had a bill yet? It should show if it’s cheaper to totalise at the top of the right hand column either in the first or second page.0
