Life insurance whilst pending hospital appointment

Hello, need a bit of advice!

I am currently under investigation with the hospital for endometriosis so Legal and General have postponed my life insurance for 3 months. I have had no formal diagnosis yet, but the next step is to do keyhole surgery to diagnose a very common condition.

Has anyone else had their life insurance postponed whilst waiting for hospital results? I'm just baffled as to how they can postpone my insurance for a condition that 1 in 10 women have!! I know it's not formally diagnosed yet, but the doctor has said that it's most likely that.

Sorry to be morbid, but if I died tomorrow my husband will be left with a debt, including our £295k mortgage to pay off by himself!!

Anyone had this or can advise on next steps?! Thanks.

This is a completely standard stance which would happen with every mainstream insurance company. Once you have a formal diagnosis it is likely to be easy to arrange cover, however, from the insurance companies stance you and the hospital only "suspect" it's endometriosis. It potentially could be loads of other things including some very serious conditions so it would be completely negligent by the provider in offering you cover whilst there is an unknown issue being looked at.

    Pretty much everybody.

But 9 in 10 do not.

And that is why. It is most likely that but it could be something else. If they knew what it was they would not need the investigations.

You have no other options other than to wait until the diagnosis is confirmed. Then inform the insurer asap after that.

If you already hold life assurance, there may be guaranteed insurability options on that plan that can be exercised in a range of scenarios. That means the insurer has to offer terms and cannot postpone. However, the premium reflects the current position and may be too expensive for you.
