TUI - switching to Amex from DD

Hi

I know TUI don't take AMEX. But they do take PayPal - so I can pay via them using my amex card.

The question is - does anyone know if it's possible to cancel the DD plan mid-paying off the holiday, and then pay the equivalent each month via Paypal, and if so are there any fees applied for cancelling the DD? I don't want to risk any charges for the sake of a few points!

I pay off the AMEX in full each month, so it's just paying more per month on that versus paying the same to tui directly via DD... makes sense to me to switch it to AMEX.

I really think this type of question needs to be asked to TUI.

As an aside, why on earth are you paying them money before the balance is due? Have people learnt nothing from the Thomas Cook debacle?

Just pay as little as possible (i.e. the deposit) until the due date and only then pay the balance

    Good point bradders!

Its a very good point! The number of people who were having to put claims in with TC for thousands of pounds for holidays months down the line could have all been avoided.

And you really should have paid some part of the holiday with a credit card for added protection.
  • For the benefit of future people reading this, I rang Tui who said that once the "full deposit" (200 per passenger) is paid you can cancel the direct debit and pay in chunks via the website.

If the DD is cancelled with the bank before the full deposit has been paid off (in my case 6 passengers = 1200) then the only option is to pay the balance in full by the due date. In my case I made a card payment up to the 1200 (I had already paid around 950) to give myself flexibility - particularly since I have a new AMEX card that I can use with their website through PayPal, and take advantage of the 5% Cashback in the first 3 months by paying some chunks

Just hoping that Tui don't go bust and I have to claw it back through Atol (as per the above suggestion!) but 5% back is 5%!
