Can I link my iPad to the TV?

Hi, a close family member has uploaded SkyGo onto my iPad so I can occasionally watch films & TV programmes using their account.

Is there anyway I can link my iPad to the smart TV so I can watch on a bigger screen? Our TV has USB & HDMI ports if that helps.

Many thanks.

No, it's not possible to do that.
(Although I could be wrong, I often am.)

I use an iPad to HDMI adaptor to connect my iPad to the TV when I'm staying somewhere besides my house.
Allows me to watch Netflix and Amazon Video on the bigger screen. Just plug into the lightning port on the iPad and connect HDMI to the adaptor and TV.

[STRIKE]I would assume this works for the SkyGo app but I wouldn't know for certain as I don't use SkyGo.[/STRIKE]

This is the official Apple one:
    https://www.amazon.co.uk/Apple-Lightning-Digital-AV-Adapter/dp/B009WHV3BM/

There are cheaper ones available but I've only ever used the Apple one so can't say how well the others would work.

Edit: there's a review on Amazon that states it doesn't work with SkyGo due to Sky blocking HDMI output on their app.
  • Thanks guys, will just continue watching on my iPad then.
  • If you had an iMac , you could mirror the iPad on to that.
    Just a thought..

Does your smart TV support AirPlay at all? If so you should be able to mirror your iPad.

sky have disabled mirroring to any tv for sky go
  • This certainly can’t be done?

I’m sure I read you could do it as I was interested in doing similar, just not with the Sky app.

There’s an adapter of sorts on the actual apple website to allow playing your device on a TV. I’m about to head to work so don’t have time to search for it.

So if it can’t be done then what’s the difference between what the OP is asking for and what I’ve read that you can do?
  • I've just looked at the answer on Reddit . Unfortunately it can't be done . This is obviously due to sky &Apple and licensing differences etc.

Can you connect your iPad to a TV? Yes - adaptors are available, as above, depending on your iPad.

Can you use the Sky app on it? No. Because Sky, specifically have blocked that functionality. Think about it. That's a subscription for an extra box they're missing out on! Other streaming services may do similar.
