This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning :)

Daft O'clock back big style. Watching a bit of catch up tv with my coffee then its fighting the sardine train into Manchester again.

Thanks to those of you who sent me good luck for yesterdays mammoth pitch I felt you were in there with me ....my OS cheerleaders :) No immediate yes or no unfortunately but the vibes were very good to say the least. I had well over the time allocated and we ended up laughing lots and planning a pilot course on creative thinking where she suggested I teach a group of high flying solicitors how to knit as they needed to chill :D If this goes ahead my cheerleaders are all back in with me please. The only niggle was a comment she made about my pricing ....she said I was too cheap  now I have been accused of many things in my career but never this just hope this is not a genuine objection. Will hear over the next couple of weeks when she has her plans sorted.

So back to normality today for negotiation skills .....maybe I'll teach them how to negotiate prices up for a change!

Dinner last night was a bacon and mushroom pasta ....some left so i will warm up tonight with some garlic bread

Hope you all have a lovely day ...thinking about ruby's daughter hope she and the pup are OK

    Morning everyone

Nelski - thanks for starting us off x

Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Still dark and damp - forecast says it's not that cold, but wind felt chilly yesterday - we'll see what today brings.

DH and DS1 getting ready for work and I'm showered, dressed and enjoying first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and ok.

Dinner last night was fish, chips and beans for the menfolk, and I had a fish pie - used up some LO mash to make it - it's one of my favourite dishes. I remembered to get the chicken out to defrost last night so tonight will be chicken chasseur with mash and veg.

Back to work today - but just today then on days' off until Monday, have used up some leave and hours they owed me.

    Keep safe and well x

  • Morning folks and thanks NELSKI - all fingers and toes are still crossed for you. It all sounds to have gone really well.

Usual good catch up with my friend yesterday and two new winter warmers on the specials board caused great excitement (we are easily excited!) We tried the braised steak and mushrooms with mash, peas and carrots. Next week we will try the other - ham and leeks in a cheesy sauce with saute potatoes and peas.

I have hairdresser coming this morning. I am beginning to resemble Freddie Boswell but I hope she isn't too scissor happy as she sometimes can be. If somebody/something has wound her up the scissors are flying all over at top speed whilst she tells me about it!

Tonight I am going to look at a puss cat! I have been wanting to adopt one from the cat rescue for a while when the right one came along. She is called Sparkle and is a 2 year old house cat. She has been treated badly and is wary of strangers so I would need patience with her. But the foster carer assures me she soon settled into a loving cat with them. I have my fingers crossed.

Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all in need. Take care all xx

    Morning all

Dark and cold here and I think it might be raining.

DD put a police report in on Monday evening and the police came out yesterday morning to get her statement, more and more is now coming out about how he has treated her its heart breaking some of the things she has gone through, anyway he kept trying to ring the house phone while the police were here(she has blocked him on everything else) and the policeman answered the phone in the end and asked him to stop ringing.

The police took all the details and have decided to go and have a chat for several things, they were going to go over yesterday afternoon but I bet he went to his mums as the policeman told him he was going round.

Anyway I hope they will see him today, dd is terrified of him and he has threatened damage to our cars etc.

He emailed her yesterday as this is now the only way to get to her, begging for forgiveness and saying it would all change blah blah ! dd is resolute there is no going back as she knows it would only escalate. I think there is a lot worse to come yet but at least we are all here and safe.

Off to work for me and dinner tonight will be pork steaks for us with a sauce and rice and peas dd will have quorn chicken with hers, dd has said she will cook which is lovely.

Right better get on have good days all xx

Good morning, and thanks for starting Nelski.
Sounds as if you did well yesterday, I really hope it works out for you and you get the work.

Redruby, your daughter did the right thing leaving that nasty oiece of work, he sounds horrible.

    Glad you're progressing Gers.

I'm hoping for a quietish day at home today, there's quite a bit to do here, so I would rather not go out. It's the U3A monthly meeting but I'll give it a miss I think.
We had Dgs yesterday for his usual Tuesday visit, then our monthly residents' association meeting, then our Tuesday evening quiz, so I didn't get much done.

The garden is in a sorry state, we should get out there really. It gets very little sunshine at this time of year, facing north as it does, so the path is green from the rain, and I hate it like that, mind so is the back yard. Too much rain and general damp, makes it look awful.
I was supposed to be meeting a friend in Newcastle today but she can't make it now, but we can re schedule .In a way I don't mind, because, as I say, I've got plenty to be going on with here.

Anyway, hope everyone has a good Wednesday,
    Take care folks

    Good morning everyone.

Thanks for starting us off NELSKI and well done on the pitch.

TA - both those news dishes sound yummy, I feel difficult decisions ahead!

This morning I'm going to go swimming though I'm avoiding the early-bird times. People like to go in to swim lengths, I'm not so would just be in the way. They can get very territorial about lanes and positions. I'll be in the deep water doing pedalling and cycling and then some sculling to work the flabby arms too.

Later this afternoon I've got a physio appointment, may be my last one. :j The other day I absentmindedly got into the car seat the normal way (as opposed to bum first and swivelling both legs round) so I'm 'forgetting' about the new hip. Onward!

DM is still spending all day in bed again. She only gets up on Saturdays for her visitor. She keeps saying that she'll do a bit of walking around the flat but doesn't.

REDRUBY - it's great that your DD has the strength to stay away and report the ex. The police warning him off should put a stop to his behaviour.

I'm off to get ready. I wish everyone a very happy and peaceful Wednesday.

    Hello
No bright sky today. All looks very grey.
Nothing much on the cards but feel the need for a post Christmas sort out. Did the lounge when we took the tree down, but everywhere else needs a good clean and tidy.
Nelski. That sounds really positive. Fingers crossed. You could always offer to double your quote!
TA. Good luck with the kitty cat. I am dreadfully allergic to cats but still find them very appealing.
R Ruby. What a worrying situation. So glad the police are taking it seriously
Gers. It seems as if all your hard work with the hip is paying off. Big worry about DM immobility tho.
    Have a good day, y'all.
  • Good morning!

Left work feeling shattered but deep down I'm still fuelled and motivated with the new years determination to undo the inevitable damage done by gorging over Christmas, so I went a little 3 mile run. Home to make a healthy dinner, watch the footie and hit the hay.

Gym again this morning although getting out of bed was a struggle. Wednesday signals yoga at lunch and I might, just might, go a short run after work again, depending on how I feel. I've agreed to play the xbox with the boys for a bit.

Late to the party, but i'm going to finish planning my new year resolutions at some point today, as well as tick off a few things on my to-do list, so hoping for a productive day.

Nels - Really well done. Sounds really positive. Keeping my fingers crossed for you!
TA - Had to google Freddie Boswell which gave me a chuckle, haha!
RR - I'm glad the police are involved as he sounds quite unpredictable. Sounds like shes made the right decision.
  • RR I am surprised the police did not recommend she take out a restraining order. I think she needs one, it looks like he is going to be a complete idiot. There is a famous saying a leopard does not change its spots, once abusive always abusive.....steer clear!!

Up early, we are waiting for the chap to come to the front door, it does not always close, we can go through into the hall and its wide open, so we have to keep it locked.

Very dark morning, sky very grey again. yukkkk.......Gers glad your hip is doing so well, you will soon be hopping about like the Easter bunny.

No idea whats for supper need to look at the list.
  • Good morning all x happy hump day x
RR glad things are getting sorted Hugs x
Well after yesterday's chaos I am taking today easy(ish) still have normal housework to do and a pile of ironing but going to pace myself and see if it helps with the pain.
Dinner last night was brilliant the low calorie moussaka was a big hit.
Tonight is jacket spuds and tuna with a nice salad on the side.
Got to make some more bread as dd eats it as fast as I can make it lol.
Been looking at my seeds for the veg patch and realised that I need to get some more potting compost this weekend so I can start them off indoors.
The garlic is looking good in the garden and has survived the cold so far.
Belle the dog has just had a bone and has now slinked off upstairs to my bed for a nap.
Anyhoo enough from me for now
Hugs to all in need x
    Bright Blessings xx
  • Good morning everyone and thank you for starting the thread Nelski. Your pitch sounds to have gone well, fingers remain crossed.

Gers, I think you are doing really well. My friend had the same operation a year ago, the initial weeks were hard going but like you, she persisted with her exercise and activity routine and it paid off.

RR thinking about your daughter, she has been very brave and sensible.

Dumpling, goid to know that your gp is going to visit.

TA I'm really jealous, I love cats but OH really doesn't.

I wasn't here yesterday as I had very little sleep and felt drained all day. Went to bed quite early last night and I slept much better though patchily and I had some very odd dreams, one of which was about curtain hooks, the others were very clear when I got up but have faded now. Anyhow the sleep has worked its magic.

My OH bought me a bird table for Christmas which he assembled a few days ago, so far every bird in South Birmingham is ignoring it resolutely though a squirrel fits in very neatly. Today I cleared off the seed I put on it at the weekend and replaced it. The birds have gone mad for the cleared away food but continue to ignore the table. I had granola for breakfast and put a little bit out for them, not the milk, so I'm hoping now that these rather over-indulged birds will sniff that out.

Hope everyone has a good day
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back
