Eon Back Bill
Hello,
We moved into our rented property 3 years ago and when moving in had both an electricity and gas meter both on prepayment cards, we immediately switch to NPower and used the cards until the switch to the credit meters were made, this was all complete in 7-8 weeks from moving in.
A few weeks ago I received a bill from Eon to say there was 256.00 outstanding on the gas prepayment meter, we were told there was no previous tenant debt on the gas meter, so I wonder how we can suddenly receive a bill over 2 years later.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Kind regards,
Alex

when you moved in , did you inform eon and use NEW card and keys they would have posted out ,or did you use card/keys left behind0

Hello,
Thanks for the reply, we had a new card/key that we got issued at a local co-op/paypoint outlet so used our own/new ones from the start.
Thanks

ok , if you check my posts from several yrs ago , you will see eon tried this on with me
did you have meter reads when moving in and funal when meter changed ?
PS sounds like money was not going to that meter . as the lengh of time was short ask them for statement showing payments made . also ask them to clarify when you started and left them0 -
Thank you for your advice, will do as you have suggested.
We did write to Eon to dispute the bill, they wrote back to say that the gas was definitely on a credit meter and not a pre payment and that we do owe the money. Then a while after this we received a letter from them with the same account number saying that we still owe £10.00. We were half wondering about paying the £10 to hopefully resolve the situation, but are reluctant to do that as we assume we would then be accepting liability of the debt, which they could then say isn’t £10 it’s the original £256... would you suggest holding off and asking for the statements?0 -
So your n'power account is still on PAYGO meters - Look at the bill from Eon and check that the meter serial number printed on it, matches your PAYGO meter0

Thanks for your message, no the pay as you go meters went when we switched over to N-power, they’ve been credit meters since the switch. So we had roughly 8 weeks only on the PAYG meters0

Hello Alexafc01 and welcome to the Forums. This is a bit of a strange one so I hope you don't mind if I ask a few questions.
When you moved in, did you let us know you had taken over responsibility for the property so the old account could be closed and a new one opened for you? If you did, were you given numbers to take to your local co-op/paypoint outlet so new payment devices could be issued? If yes, an account will have been created and linked to these devices. All payments made through these devices would then register against this account. We can let you have a copy of this.
If things didn't happen in this way, the payments you made will have gone to another account. Don't worry, these payments can be found and transferred to your account.
A change of supplier goes through in about two and half weeks. If you started the switch immediately, we'll have continued to supply the electricity and gas until npower took over.
Who changed your meters from prepayment to credit? Was it us or npower?
I'd suggest contacting us and raising a complaint. If we're saying the bill refers to a credit meter and you inherited prepayment meters which npower subsequently changed, something is clearly wrong. A Complaint Manager will investigate the circumstances behind the bill we've sent.
Sorry for all the questions and the speculation Alexafc01. Trying to understand what might've happened here.
