Staysure letter says we have to tell them if we attend GP for a cold!!!

<SNIP>Disagree - they should want to know of any diagnosed conditions - or any situation still awaiting definitive diagnosis. That allows them to calculate risk accordingly.
Requesting people report a doctor's visit for a minor and one-off illness is absolutely not going to allow for risk ...
Thank you. You have eloquently put what I was trying to say.0 -
Erm.. being a cynic I would suggest that if you don't inform them every time you darken the surgery's door they will try to wriggle out of a claim. Insurers are big wriggle worts!!
No chance here to waste a Dr.'s time- we only seem to be able to see the nurse practioner!
Serious comment 'though is that I have just completed the medical screening pages to apply for annual insurance and I have included things like 'sinusitis' but I omitted the campylobacter (from India!)
I have re-insured with Saga, possibly not the cheapest but now you only pay one excess if you have to make a claim under several sections. I see you can have 9 folk on the policy.Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!

If the insurer asks for something and you don't do it then sure you're taking a risk they will refuse your claim.
But an insurer asking for you to report a visit to a doctor with a cold is a nonsense.
Most travel insurers specifically specify the questions you need to inform them of if something changes. And it doesn't include a cold!0 -
Since the change to the law surrounding Consumer Contracts of Insurance a few years ago, Carter v Boehm (1766) is no longer the guiding precedent on disclosure when forming an insurance contract and the principle of uberrimae fidei no longer applies as it is now regulated by statute (these changes do not apply to insurance taken out by businesses, where the legal landscape is unchanged). As a consequnce, an insurer has to ask questions about anything they think could affect risk, they cannot rely on the utmost good faith of the person applying for insurance to disclose relevant information without being asked.I wonder if anyone has had similar experiences with either Staysure or other insurance companies or has any thoughts or knowledge about such issues?
So, the questions may be more specific or intrusive now than they once were.Proud member of the wokerati, though I don't eat tofu.Home is where my books are.Solar PV 5.2kWp system, SE facing, >1% shading, installed March 2019.Mortgage free July 20231 -
We were talking about conditions just the other day and when you start doing dummy quotes its surprising what makes a difference.
Also surprising what people don't feel is worth declaring like a simple chest infection.
For example,
chronic kidney disease stage 3, no premium increase
3 chest infections in 1 year, doubles the premium.
Who'd have thought heartburn and migraines we're declarable ? no premium increase on mine but declarable none the less.
Sprained ankle ? declarable.
My stance is if its on your doctors notes declare it, half the time it makes no difference, some surprising ones do.0 -

Both heartburn and migraines can be symptoms of a more serious condition so IMO, it makes sense to have to declare these, especially if it's the first time you have suffered from either of them and had to visit a doctor as a result.0 -
Some terrible reviews for Staysure!1

Should I declare a visit to the surgery for a Flu jab ?Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0

Staysure are known for providing policy for older people with health conditions, but seem to take every opportunity to treat you like a criminal if you have very minor ailments, resulting in people NOT going to the doctor to avoid the interrogation by phone from Staysure! E.g.I decided to have my ears tested and give hearing aids a try, even though I can manage quite well without them and its now on my Staysure policy. There were no direct questions about it. It makes me very angry that they pick up on such minor things.0

My Annual Staysure policy has just renewed and I am printing it off and have noticed that it now has in bold print 'No cover provided for any claims caused by or related to Coronavirus (Covid-19)" My old policy did cover us for things like this, I contacted them to check, but holiday companies have canceled our holidays this year so no insurance claims have been necessary. Is this normal on new policies across the travel industry?0
