Indesit washer dryer burnt door lock

I have a indesit washer dryer that stopped working on Friday, all lights were flashing on it and smelt of burning and a teeny bit of smoke coming from it. I had an engineer out today to look at it and it turns out the door lock is burnt badly!
I've checked to see if it's on a recall and it's not. I've now contacted indesit to make them aware of the problem and they are sending their own engineer out on Thursday to assess it.
Are they likely to repair it or offer a replacement and where do I stand on this as they have not long issued recalls in December with washing machines with exactly the same fault!
Thank you x

depends on how long ago you bought it, what consumer rights you may still have and alternatively, if you have any warranty rights.

If their technician finds a dangerous inherent fault that could be systematic in that model, you may kickstart another recall! It could just be an isolated incident.

It seems they are recalling some washers because of door locks and fires:

You can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset. ;)
  • just had the Indesit washing machine lock fault happen. (12/06/20). Smelt burning, checked both the dryer which had just ended and the washing machine, which had 9mins left to finish and thought it could be the drive belt so let it finish, it did finish but then all the lights started flashing with F06 on the display and the doorlock light never went off, even when the door opened. our model no. is IWE71682W ECO UK. and also NOT ON THE LIST for the recall!! I think it may need to be...?! hope this may help someone. I'm on the phone tomorrow and I'll let you know..

Please do let us know the outcome. I have an Indesit washer dryer and assumed it was only the washers that were faulty.
    :D I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe :D

  • Rang Indesit today to make them aware it may be a bigger problem than they first thought. they didnt seem too interested that a different model, to whats already on their list, is doing the same. just said it's not on the list so it's not getting recalled....as yet. Ours is out of warranty so they will only book a repair which I'll be charged for. im gonna buy the new part and fix it myself and hopefully this one wont try spontaneously combust like the old one did. if its worth it ill take some pics of any damage inside the washer and the lock itself whilst its apart.

Good grief, what an attitude. You wouldn't want to be reading this if you live in a tower block would you?

If it does spontaneously combust, Indesit will probably blame it on repairs by a non authorised person.
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales

Did you get anywhere further with this?  Yesterday I found the door lock on my Indesit washer/dryer (IWDC6105)badly burnt/melted/charred.  Phoned Hotpoint but they were not interested because it isn't on their recall list.  You'd think that if a model not on the list is showing the same problem as the recall machines then they'd want to know and investigate.  A bizarre attitude.  I'm reluctant to fit a new part in case the problem isn't with the part per se.
  • I also have an indeset washing machine ewd81482s which is not on the recal list but it smelt of burning and had smoke coming out . It was the door lock and harness burn well and truly . Phone indeser but was told it was not on the list , after saying how poor this was they are sending out an engineer today to see if its related to the other problems on their machines but if it isnt i will be charged £75 for repairs , i think this is to much of a burnt door lock coincidence but will repost as soon as i know .
