Balance Transfer timescale?

Options
Hi, hope someone can shed some light on this.

I transferred £2000 from a Virgin credit card to my Santander card but the balance hasn't changed on my Virgin one but it has on my Santander one.

Getting a bit worried as I now owe £4000 instead of £2000!!!

I did it online at around 10pm last night, I just thought it would show on both not just one at the same time.

Credit card systems do not update in real time like bank accounts.
Most only update once a day often in the evening.
It may show as available funds after a couple of hours at Santander end. But you will not see it till next day as a transaction on the account.

As said can take a few days.
Might be better speaking to santander who sent the money. Virgin won't be able to see it till they do.

    It won't be that quick.
If you did the BT at 10PM last night it is unlikely to have been actioned until working hours today. They may even take longer and do it tomorrow or the next day.
When you say it has appeared on the Santander account, what exactly do you mean? Appeared as what? A pending transaction? Deducted from available credit? As credit card accounts don't update in real time it wouldn't be showing other than as a pending transaction even if it had gone out as an FP the moment you requested it.
Is this your first ever BT?
Tonight when the account updates if it has gone out you will see it appear on the Santander account.
Check your Virgin account to see if it is reflected in the available balance on that account or wait until the next up[date after you can verify that Saatander have actioned it for the balance to update.
You are worrying far too soon. Give it time.
  • bank of Scotland takes 2 working days to pay off the card you transfer from - that is usual, generally takes 2 or 3 days
