Car Scrappage scheme or sell privately?

VW enthusiasts aren't going to get interested in a leggy Mk4 Golf. There's thousands of 'em about.skellington wrote: »Ok thanks, so the best option is to sell privately i guess? maybe a VW site or enthusiasts etc might be an option?
Local newsagent window, local FB group/marketplace, or Autotrader. Where would you look for a cheap disposable shed?0 -
I looked at the Kia Picanto scrappage deal at the end of 2019. I had a 2007 Chevrolet Kalos to scrap.
The new Picanto was £11000, the allowance was £2000, but you had to take the finance package. I didn't look into it after that as I wasn't interested in finance. Some finance deals have an early settlement fee which means any savings are compromised. If you pay the installments the interest charged covers a chunk of the scrappage allowance.
In the end I bought a 3 year old Peugeot 108 5dr with 18k miles for just over £5000 (List price was £11'500 when new) and sold the Chevrolet for £300 privately on Facebook.0 -
Dealer will offer you for example £2000 scrappage but it will be on a full price RRP car ie ford fiesta 1.6 ztec £20000 less your £2k £18000
On the other hand sell car privately £500 and search ford fiesta 1.6 ztec you can guarantee you will find one for example £17k less your £500 £16500 total paid
The above figures are examples but go on main dealer websites for new car without part/ex or scrappage and prices will be a fair bit lower0
