Stockpiling

Hello from Oz
As a safeguard I'm wanting to start a stockpile of staples. I live in Western Australia and I read last night that our 2 major roads are closed due to fires along the Eyre Hwy SA and the other in the Northern Territory to flooding. Which means no trucks can get through, so food in our supermarkets will get low, apart from what is grown/manufactured here.
On my list so far I have
Flour - to make bread/pasta/cakes
Eggs
Sugar
Tinned fruit
Tuna
Tinned meat (hotdogs/corned beef)
(I already 5kg rice)
Please don't think I'm insensitive to what is happening in my country, it is absolutely devastating and my heart goes out to everyone effected and the brave men and women who are fighting these fires. My homeland is burning and its heartbreaking to watch. Apart from donating money (which I have), I feel helpless to what to do.
Thanks Amanda

We are fine in regards to water, we live in the suburbs. We do have water restrictions for the gardens but not household usage.
Yes jam & crackers!! :T My kids love crackers more than bread!

Thoughts with you all in Aus, have been following the twitter feeds for weeks so see the enormity. Oil, cereals, uht and dried milk, sugar, honey, jams, preserves, bread mixes, flour, yeast, salt, crackers, cookies, quick baking mixes, tinned meats, fruits, veg, stock cubes, pastas, noodles, relish, tomato puree, tubes cheese spreads, beans, chocolate, coffee, teas, fruit squashes, herbs and spices. There are some 'prepper' type sites with comprehensive suggestions you may find useful. All the very best. Finally Debt Free (£8k to zero) yay! :j :j

Soap, toothpaste and anything of that nature, over the counter meds from the pharmacy, a selection of herbs and spices, sauces and condiments that would add variety of flavour to your food should you have to use the same ingredients to make them for a relatively long period of time. Non fridge cheese triangles which store in a cupboard are very useful, a jar of marmite/vegemite adds depth to sauces, instant mash can be the base of an instant and tasty meal with additions, some bottles of ketchup can be very useful, dried fruits that can be soaked up to make fruit salads are useful too. A set of sewing equipment and threads will let you repair clothing in the long term. Many other things are useful but have escaped my mind at this moment in time, will post them if they return!0

Every blessing to you amandaatnumber7 !...I have a friend in oz, hoping she is staying safe too!
Good idea about stocking up..in addition to the god suggestions sofar, I would be looking at stocking up on..
Meds...especially any prescription ones if you can get a supply.
If appropriate, then sanitary products.
Coffee (Yes, that's me...deprivation is one thing...but I need my coffee!!!...okay, I'm being facetious, but if possible I'd be stowing a few extra jars of coffee in a back cupboard!)
Oats (I like porridge or overnight oats in the morning...and they also make a good dessert topping)
Tinned veg (you mentioned fruit...I would add some peas/beans/sweet corn)
Pulses...tinned chickpeas, dried or tinned lentils, maybe some split peas.
if you have children, then maybe a tin of biscuits?
...and loo paper!0 -
