Ooookay. If you want a £5k car, why are you looking at £19k ones? Yes, the big supermarkets have near-new cars at four times your budget. They also have cheaper ones. Cargiant are listing 40+ <£6k cars. They may be newer and smaller than you're after, of course. Most of their stock is near-new.

Honestly, I think you need to narrow your criteria down a bit. There's a hell of a lot of used cars out there.

STOP FOCUSSING ON THE BIG CHAIN DEALERSHIPS. Buy the car, not the vendor. Frankly, most of the pile-em-high brigade are not going to be where the value is, and they CERTAINLY aren't where the customer service is. They're just punting out as much tin as they can, usually with questionable marketing and certainly with bare minimum aftersale.
And, at the £2k end of the market, buy private.

Sorry, for us a vendor is an important consideration. The vendor of a car I bought recently just threatens us now when I returned it as faulty 3 days after buying it.

    I like professional vendors.

As I said, I've never looked at any £19k cars. Maybe you're misreading everything I wrote? I lament the high prices on big dealers, and am seeking market leading competitors to car giant. etc

So inspect the car better, no matter who you buy it from.

Steer clear of the supermarkets and big chains, then.

Yes, they have expensive cars. They also have cheap ones.
You want a Sprogbus? Cargiant have a £20k Galaxy - and a £13.5k older one. They also have a £7k, 6yo Touran. They also have a couple of £32k Merc V-classes.

Yes, a sprogbus, but also for moving stuff

So you want a large sprogbus - something Galaxy sized?
Do you know any well respected & established competitors to CarGiant
There are a huge number of established dealers who are more respected - it's hard not to be, this side of Arnold Shark... Few of them are national chains, and considering you haven't even given a hint as to where in the country you are...

    Thank you for the tips.

    We're in West London.

Yes, we don't buy with finance or HPI. We've got to watch our spending.

There must be motor traders selling who have been around for 10+ years selling used cars under £5000 ?

They are not using the autotrader site for hosting. They are placing ads with a site that is a site with car ads. you still aren't getting this. If you suggest that Autotrader are fraudulent you could be sued for slander - though un likely, it is quite possible. This site can be done for libel for anything that is libellous also.

You need to keep looking. Purchased my current car from an Advert on Autotrader. High miles and a low price, dealer had been trading for a very long time.

Rural location, family run. Even though the car was high miles and i inspected it fully they still gave me a warranty which was unexpected and as it turned out not required anyway.

If your looking at lots of £5k cars and then find one thats way cheaper then you need to be super wary...

Big firms use Autotrader, find the car you like and click see their other stock. Selling 3 cheap broken cars then move on to the next car.
Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...

There are so many cars using the Autotrader default website for hosting.
    No, they aren't.
Click on "Visit Website", and you go to the dealer's own website.

Trim the URL down to this bit. BTW, the ad number includes the date the ad went live - 4th Dec in this case - so you can see what's going a bit stale on a forecourt...
Everything after the question mark is simply the search parameters you gave to Autotrader - including your home postcode.

There's really no need to restrict your search to a 10 mile radius. Apart from the minor detail that cars are portable, 10 miles excludes several large conurbations near you - including Reading. It includes some of Uxbridge, but goes no further inside the M25 than that.

I will share some information about the motor dealers website hosted by autotrader.

    $ host https://www.expomotors.co.uk
https://www.expomotors.co.uk is an alias for dealer-websites-proxy.elb.autotrader.co.uk.
