We did this on two purchase and both times were very dismissive. Just said the survey was there to point out potential issues, if further investigations were needed we had to get specialists in.

Start saving a bit every month in a roof fund. After 5 years, you will have some money to help wit costs of a roof replacement. If it lasts longer than 5 years, as many are rightly hinting, then you can save for longer.

+1 here for ‘survey says roof is in need of replacement on purchase, roof is still ok years later’ by the way...

Us too for what it is worth (property was over 100 years old). We finally had the roof re-tiled and felted (and the loft insulation redone) 10 years after we moved in. Roofer said timbers were fine and could easily last another century.
