Help with switching electric suppliers

Hi

I'm on a prepayment meter with British Gas, but the latest change in where to pay is making it difficult for me. I have no arrears and own my own home. Is it possible to switch suppliers but also switch meter so I pay by direct debit at the same time to get a better rate? The compare sites seem to struggle to compare different suppliers AND different payment types at the same time.

Welcome to the forum. Yes, there's very little point in having a prepayment meter unless you're worried that you'll be hit with a bill you can't pay, and even then it would be better to keep reading the meter and doing the sums rather than pay a high rate so that the meter can cut you off.

British Gas probably aren't the cheapest so you'll win twice over.

Just make sure to confirm beforehand that the meter change will be free of charge and check whether you have to stay with the same supplier for a year or so after the meter has been changed.
