personally I dont give a toss whether you buy it or not. Its "Free" if you are in a 5 star hotel. If you are in a 3* and you are wondering where to go, its pretty handy. You can always log on to http://www.timeoutdubai.com/ but that is going to cost you anyway, in a hotel. better to have the mag in front of you eh.
Honest,I looked at this mag and judged the reviews before going to dinner every night.
You dontget this much info in a gtuide book.

Obviously you do give a toss since you are defending the fact that you are taking something available for free and selling it for ten pounds.

Cheapest Travel insurance for a couple travelling to Dubai for 5 nights?

    Where to buy currency from?
Would I get a better rate purchasing currency from Dubai, if so where should I purchase this? E.g. at the airport when I arrive?

    Hotel advice required – location?
    Websites that offer good deals?
Would it be better for me to purchase my hotel when I arrive at the airport?
Problem is I arrive at 22:00, so would there be any risk there?

Finally, which websites can I visit to research Dubai and now where all the shops/sights etc are?

Got my travel insurance with Direct (underwritten by AXA) whoe were the cheapest call them on 019038 12345, I did try www.moneysupermarket.com but Direct were still cheaper for me.

£ is strong so better to get currency from there, got the Lonely Planet guide myself which recommended some of the exchange outlets or banks NOT the airport, said it was a overpriced (but not 100% sure, would need to check), if you're getting any from here use www.travelex.co.uk and order it online, get a better rate than you will from their outlets.

Booked my hotel via www.opodo.co.uk, but then rung the hotle up direct and swung a small discount.

I bought the Time Out guide from Amazon myself.

    HTH.

Seems like you have got a good price for 5 nights. Locations depend on what sort of holiday you are after. If you want the beach then Jumeriah Beach is the only place to head for. If you want the City then I would go for somewhere near Dubai Creek.
By the way, if you have not been to Dubai before at this time of the year then it will be hot...very very hot...so hot that it is really uncomfortable to walk anywhere outside. Even in September when I was last there it was stifling...the sea at Jumeriah was almost at bath water temperature!
Dont forget to go to "Wild Wadi" water park at Jumeriah Beach. (is fantastic) Dont go via the hotel, just get a cab and turn up as it will be a lot cheaper that way (the hotels like to take a commision)

If you register with Wild Wadi online www.wildwadi.com they send you newsletters with discount vouchers!!! Worth knowing if you're going, had one but it wasn't valid for my days of stay. Think people staying at Jumeirah Beach get free entry.

  • Went last summer and cheaperst was ebookers - with fantastic service. Travelled BA to Bahrain then a short hop on Gulf Air to Dubai. Fast and very quick.

Wouldn't use Expedia for last minute as lost money with them a couple of years ago, when they confirmed by fax after we'd travelled, took the money and we ended up paying for 2 lots of accommodation for 6 people in Milan.

For accommodation try a private agent called Sarfraz - we used him and he got us a good rate at a 3* hotel, right on the beach and close to city centre. sarfiprince@yahoo.com. He was helpful but not intrusive and facilitated many things!

Going to drop him an e-mail and see if he can beat the price I've already got. Good first post.

Been to dubai many times and I thought it might help you to know that if you choose to stay in the beach area try and pick an hotel that has a free shuttle service to the city centre, shopping malls, and gold souk etc. This will save you in cab fares as it can become quite costly. Always get the hotels shuttle timetable. Also there is alot of building work going on there at the moment so be sure to check with your hotel before you book and lastly I bet you will have an amazing time.
