I am owed a refund from Paypal for a purchase I made in January 2019 from John Lewis using my Paypal account. The item subsequently developed a fault and so I contacted John Lewis who said they would refund the £90.00 cost. Around June 2019 I had to close my old Paypal account (because I legally changed my surname and I couldn't get Paypal to accept this so was advised by a Paypal advisor to close the account and open a new one). This I did so since then have a new active Paypal account in my new name. Unforunately John Lewis paid my refund into my old closed Paypal account. I have been contacting Paypal since the beginning of November 2019 (8 telephone calls and several emails and have sent every proof of my new identity asked for) but each time I am told yes they can see the £90.00 in my closed account and they will transfer this to my new current one. After each lengthy conversation with an advisor nothing happens and no money is transferred, I have tried to use the Resolver website but received an automated email from Paypal saying they do not deal with third parties and to call them. I did call them but again didn't receive the transfer of £90.00. I have sent the Financial Ombudsman a complaint but have yet to receive a response. Does anyone have experience of the runaround by Paypal or can anyone advise me on anything I can do next??
