warning about using couriers on ebay

There have been a few threads on MSE and more than a few on other boards and forums about packetlink refusing compensation for damaged or lost goods.

Please remember that when buying postage anywhere, and that's direct with courier or on ebay- that it is the senders responsibility to ensure their item can be carried and if it can be insured.

I think anyone that has been selling for a while knows the issues around things like laptops, glass and china, Tvs etc - as a reminder this is the MyHermes restriction guide (although all couriers have them and senders must check before sending):

https://www.myhermes.co.uk/help/carry-guide/

on ebay if you buy via RM or by packetlink you are asked to confirm that you have checked the restriction list - and it gives a clickable link that goes to this page as a reminder:

https://support-ebay.packlink.com/hc/en-gb/articles/209034425?flash_digest=e3e64633c9d541ed384e2169ff628dae672ab275#prohibited

There are some odd restrictions and it is worth checking, even those of us who have been selling for years. Don't assume that just because packetlink or the courier website lets you buy postage that they accept your item, they don't , hence the tick box asking you to confirm you've checked.

Obviously sometimes it is worth a risk sending something without insurance, I do it myself, but do understand and accept that risk. For instance there is a postable parcel rate available cheaply on MyHermes for items up to 1kg - beats RM in price but is not insured at all.
