    Thanks NedS I had completely overlooked the MIF not applying if claimant is a carer.

    How did I miss that? Brain must have slowed down in the cold. Apologies. Glad you read on.
    Not very logical from the benefits point of view as you have control over whether you pay yourself as earnings or through dividends and someone earning your level of income directly as earnings would not be eligible to claim CA.

    I note there is also this paragraph and I don't know how DWP apply this to directors.
    National minimum wage
    15017 The NMW affects most workers over the age of 18 who must be paid at or above the minimum rates from that date. Even if they want to, employees cannot agree with their employers to accept a wage lower than the NMW.

    Regardless of the above do have a look at how what you pay yourself affects building up NI credits for State Pension. If you are getting Child Benefit for a child under 12 you will be getting credits anyway but if not I would suggest you might want to pay yourself over the Lower Earnings Limit in order to get NI credits (your company will have to pay some NI if you do this).
