Dro issues?
Options
Hi. I'm new to this but I'm hoping someone can help. Both myself and my husband had a dro in 2017, every month since we've had credit reports from credit karma. There were no issues with the dro, it was all straight forward. Now however, over 2 years later, 4 debts are showing as active and I'm in default? Can they do that? I'm not interested in credit at all, I'm just worried that they'll start chasing us again. It was horrific before the dro. Could someone please help. Thanks in advance x

The debts should show as defaults from the date your DRO was approved, if the defaults are for later your should raise it with the credit reference agency first then the debt.
If those debts were included in your DRO then they have no recourse to chase you for them. Unlike Bankruptcy if a debt was not included in a DRO they can still chase you. Your intermediary should be able to give you a list of the debts included. If they were joint debts and were included they should show as defaulted for both of you from the date the DRO was approved.
The default will stay on for 6 years from the date the DRO was approved. Being on your credit file as defaulted does not mean the debt is still collectable it just shows on there for that long.
So all debts included in the DRO should drop off in 2023.0 -
OK, they were on the original dro, some are shown as closed but these are showing as active but that I've defaulted. The only reason I noticed is that the credit report had changed. It hasnt changed in the 2years since we completed it. It's so stressful. Thank you for replying, it's made me ill this weekend. Do you think it's worth ringing step change or just leave it? Thanks again0

I don't think ringing stepchange will help.
If you are saying that they are showing as defaulted, that the default dates precede the DRO date and that no-one is writing to you to demand money , then all is as it should be.
The active/closed thing doesn't mean anything.0
