I've had my Judge sauce pans approx 25 years and they're still going strong, they weren't cheap but brought in a closing down sale less than half price. The only issue has been a metal knob on the lid which gets hot but they don't have that now. I recently brought a new one as I needed the size half price in a sale. They are stainless steel and clean up really well even when I've burnt stuff black in them
I haven't used copper pans but find a decent heavy bottom pan cooks well. Personally I wouldn't buy a really heavy pan (think orange French brand or a cheaper alternative) but that's because joint pain means I find them too heavy even when emptyLife shrinks or expands in proportion to one's courage - Anais Nin0 -
I would go stainless steel every time. Mine still looking good after 35 years. Over the years I have burned various foods in them and always manage to get it off with soaking or boiling up vinegar.
Avoid metal handles as they get hot.
Modern ones all seem to have a little hole in the lid to let steam out, which mine sadly don't. Instead I have a little blue rubber man that looks a bit like Morph, called Lid Sid. You sit him on the edge of your pan and he keeps the lid ajar. My OH likes to hide Sid in amusing positions around the kitchen. T'other day I needed Sid and searched for ages, cursing the OH, before spotting that he (Sid, not OH) had "hanged himself" using the roller blind cord!0 -
thankyou both..poor sid xx
i will google judge and see what i like the look of ...much appreciatedonwards and upwards0 -
My Prestige Stainless Steel pans are coming up on 20 years old and there's at least another 20 years of life in them. They weren't cheap but on sale and definitely money well spent.
In that time I've also had a couple of copper bottomed pans (from TK Maxx) where after a few years the base started to come away from the shell. I do have a solid copper one (steel lined) which is lovely but does keep a bit of looking after to keep the copper shiny which tbh can be a bit of a pain and it can't go in the dishwasher.
Over the past fews years I've bought my kids the IKEA 365 pan sets. Both cook lots and they seem to be holding up very well and were reasonably priced - they really like them. https://www.ikea.com/gb/en/p/ikea-365-5-piece-cookware-set-10368875/0 -
My stainless steel also have another 30 years in them. Mine are Viners.0

Another fan of Prestige Stainless Steel pans. My husband bought himself some of these when he first moved south 42 years ago, and they are still in daily use. I don't think they are dishwasher proof as that wasn't top of most people's must haves all that time ago
I can also recommend the IKEA 365 pans too. I've also had them for several years, and again they are in regular use. I can also put them in the dishwasherSealed Pot Challenge no 035.

Prestige, Stellar, Judge - stainless steel - will all last a lifetime
I only offloaded my Stellar's when I switched to induction. Before those I was using prestige copper bottom ones that were my grans so they done 30/40 years before being retired
Most of these range of saucepan will always be in the sales at some point0 -
Our Stellars are coming up to 30 years old.
Despite daily use they always look like new. Still available and still very good value.0 -

are you the lady that is the coupon fairy ?
if you are then I followed your example the other day and duly put a coupon on some cat food for someone else to use.

Stainless steel - my Prestige ones were bought off a friend 30 years ago. They have wooden handles so can’t go in the dishwasher but they’re so easy to clean, that’s no hardship. If I bought again, I’d get similar ones but without the wood - you can get replacement handles, though.Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone.
