Faulty Christmas lights from JTF

Hi guys,
Before Christmas (over 30 days ago just, I have the receipt) I bought some outdoor Christmas lights from JTF. My husband has just taken them down today and every single tube (they are the expensive chaser tube lights and cost £40) is filled with water.
I contacted the store to see if I could bring them in for a replacement/refund and the young girl on the counter said no because they’ve got rid of their Xmas stock. Asked to speak to the manager, he said the same thing. I argued that they were faulty, he said if you put them outside I should expect that to happen and am I sure they are outdoor lights. I said I’m positive and of course they’re not supposed to fill with water. He said nothing he can do since I’ve already used them.
What are my rights here? I’m obviously going to have to go down in person, but would like to know before I get down there where I stand.
Thank you

But the purpose of lights is to give you light, which is what they did.0 -

And will they still work next year after sitting for a year full of water?
Is it unreasonable to expect a set of lights to last more than 3 weeks?
The build quality must be terrible for them to have filled up already. Plus, they’re also supposed to be decorative. They’re not supposed to be hideous and filled with an inch of brown water.0 -
I think you're on difficult ground because you're essentially asking for a free hire over Christmas now. The retailer would be entitled to ask just what you did with them that has caused them to be full of brown water. Did you have them laying in gutters or something?
What's the product name or code? Are you sure they're outdoor lights and that you used them in accordance with the instructions?0 -
If they are outdoor lights and the packaging says so, then they should not fill with water.
It is irrelevant if they have put their Christmas stock away. The lights are clearly faulty and should be refunded or replaced.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -

The reason the water is brown is because as the water has entered it has rusted the inside turning the water brown. Definitely outdoor lights as I still have the box and were just hung up by gutter hooks the same as every other lights I’ve ever used.0 -
What's the product name or code

In which case, take them back and persevere. As pinkshoes says, your statutory rights can't be overridden by seasonal timing of stock.
How did you pay for them?0
