UPVC Window styles (number of openings)

We are having our windows replaced and have got quotes in for two openings per window, one side and then a small top opening above and then the rest of the windows a pretty large plain expanse of glass (like traditional window style) But now I'm wondering if we should do away with the top opening and just have one side opening panel per window. I think.it looks more modern but cant work out if I would miss being able to open the windows just at the top. Anyone with just one side opening panel able to comment on pros and cons of that style?
Our house is rural but built 1970, part stone, part pebble dash render. There are smaller windows that would need just a top opening but these are at the side and rear so I dont think these would spoil the look from the front but it would mean the windows wouldn't all match.

Small opening at the top is very good for ventilation in cold seasons. If it's a single high side opening, cold air flows inside at the bottom and the hot one escapes outside at the top.
I am pretty sure that the bottom part and the top one can be operated independently (double check that it's really the case with the supplier)0 -
We went for 2 side openings one above the other - equal-sized but can be different. Generally only open top one for ventilation when needed but have option to open both in the warmer weather. Pleased both aesthetically and practically.0

Choose whatever looks good to you.Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.0

Big panes of glass are heavy. Above a certain size, they may well need to be toughened glass (more expensive). A single large opening window will require hinges to be serviced/replaced at regular intervals. Hinges on a small window should last a lifetime (of the window).
If you don't like the look of the average opening window, you can get flush fitting windows. No idea how much extra they cost or if they are any better/worse than the bog standard offerings. Her courage will change the world.
Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.0
