Worried about boiler
Hi guys
Apologies if this is in the wrong place on the forums (or not the kind of Q you can ask here - I had a look around online and couldn't find a consumer forum about boilers).
I'm worried about the boiler in my rent house. The front panel is held on with gaffer tape. When winter rolled around I opened the cupboard and found the panel hanging off.
Apparently as a new users I'm not allowed to upload an image, so its at ibb.co/d0gg47W
I badgered the landlord into sending someone round as it needed servicing anyway, and the guy who came round seemed like he knew what he was talking about and said it was "fine".
But - my landlord is an utter skinflint who - with any other job in the house that he has bothered to actually sort out - just waits for one of his cousins to be free rather than look up a proper tradesman.
Does this look ok? Should I demand he sends someone else, is there a free checking service available or should I get a paid gas engineer in?
Or am I just being silly?
Thanks in advance
Joseph

If you are renting the landlord has to provide you with a current gas safety certificate (renewed every year and issued by a gas safe engineer) so demand that he provides one or have a word with the council trading standards officer as he's breaking the law if he doesn't.
have a read of this https://www.thetenantsvoice.co.uk/advice_from_us/gas-safety-check/#landlords_responsibilities_regarding_gas_safety and this https://www.gassaferegister.co.uk/help-and-advice/gas-safety-certificates-records/
The fact that the cover isn't secure isn't necessarily an indication that the appliance is unsafe (unless it was in a bathroom) but it's not really very encouraging. Check the credentials of the engineer on the Gas safe RegisterNever under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -

I will dig out the certificate he gave me - I didn't know you could check them online. Thank you!0 -

Looks a but dodgy but I wouldn't be overly concerned about it personally as long as it working and not leaking CO.0
