How long does it take to register a new vehicle?

I'm wondering if anyone has some "inside" knowledge of the world of car dealerships and could answer this.

I ordered a new car a couple of months ago which was delivered to the dealer before xmas. On 27th December, my wife took her car in for a service and the salesman showed us our new car - it had no numberplates.

I've now received the V5 through the post, but the dealer still hasn't been in touch to say the car is ready to collect.

How long does it normally take from delivery to dealership to customer being able to collect the car? I'm getting impatient!

Remember it was Christmas. All of a sudden the process will speed up seeing as that's all over now.

I hadn't forgotten xmas. Or new year. But I have no reference, so knowing the process will "speed up" is no real help.

The registration paperwork's been done, else you wouldn't have the V5C - but the car isn't ready.

Maybe there aren't enough mechanics working over Xmas to do the PDI. Maybe there's a problem with the car that's waiting parts that are held up by the warehouse or import process being short-staffed or closed over Xmas. Maybe, maybe, maybe.

How long is a bit of string... Have you tried calling the dealership to ask.

My last new car was a matter of days from seeing it in the showroom. Helped that it was the one in the showroom. But I had to purchase my personalised :rotfl: plates 1st.
Daughter waited months as she wanted a new reg. Despite car sat in compound..

Both new cars I received the V5 after collecting the car, the 1st one it was about 3 weeks before when the dealer had called me to tell me what the reg would be, then I sent in the retention certificate for them to register the car with the plate, the V5 was dated on the date of collection.

That's what I've always had, too. I'm slightly worried that I legally own the vehicle but haven't insured it etc.
