O/S Daily Saturday 4th January 2020

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Still dark, and air feels a bit chilly.

DH is watching catchup tv, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here, I'm working this morning. Both boys still in their pits, although DS2 has said he will be going to the gym this morning so he'll probably catch a lift with me.

Dinner last night was breaded chicken portions, chips, beans/salad for the menfolk, I had fishcakes and salad. Tonight I'm not sure what we will be having but I'm sure we'll sort something.

Yesterday I was reasonably productive, I did a food shop, I now seem to have lots of food but don't know what to make it into so will need to give that some thought over the coming days - I don't want to throw too much of anything away so will be needing to use up what we have asap. Still have enough cheese to open a cheese shop - I'll start grating some up and putting it in the freezer - I can use that for the topping for cauli/broc cheese and in sauces etc. I made soup the other day - I found a packet of soup mix ys to 30% off which made it 62p I just added water and 2 stock cubes - it's made 4 large portions of soup - I couldn't buy the veg to make it for that and this was already chopped I just had to cook it - it's a bit of a strange colour but tastes lovely. 1 tub of that is in the freezer, I had 1 for lunch Thursday, 1 yesterday and I'll have the last one for today's lunch.

Today will be a chilled afternoon I should think.

Keep safe and well x

  • Good morning, and thanks for starting NMLC.
I don't know what the weather is doing, yeaterday wasn't a bad day. The forecast for the wekend is quite good I think.
All our decs are down now, and put away - the place looks so bare!!

As we were boxing them up yesterday, I sorted out a few things that don't get used anymore, so there's now a bag for the tip and a small charity shop bag. We have too much stuff as it is without keeping what we don't use.

I wasn't out yesterday, apart from going to a friends last night. I've hardly been out since Christmas really, I seem to have been busy round the house, sorting and rearranging.

We were going to go out today to look at sheds, ours is dropping to bits, then I remembered there's a parcel coming,so we'll see. We need to mark up where we think it will go anyway using chalk on the ground, as we might not put it where the old one is. It's more money going out, but it's essential.

That's us for the day. Hope everyone is ok and has a good Saturday.
    Take care folks
  • Morning folks and thanks for the new thread NMLC. I don't know what it's doing outside it's too dark to see.

If I can be off and away to town on the first bus down I am planning on going to Harrogate (s 3 bus trip) as I want to have a browse in the Hotter shop whilst the sale is on. I have a few pairs of Hotter sandals but want some comfy shoes to wear with jeans. Having small feet I am usually quite lucky in sales as smaller sizes are not in such high demand.

If time permits before the bus journey back I might also get chance for a browse in the big M & S and TKMaxx.

Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for those in need of one. Take care all xx

  • Good morning all x
Managed to get some sleep last night in between arm and leg cramps and brain overworking. So feel a bit more glued together today.
Expecting a call from a builder today to arrange a quote for the extension.
Was really naughty last night and had a bar of chocolate so bang went the calorie counting.
Didn't get to clean fish tank as so tired yesterday so hopefully will manage it at some point this weekend with DH help.
For some strange reason my dog has become very clingy and protective of me over the last few days. She is eating OK and her normal bouncy self but won't leave my side even if I go to loo she is there. Its like having a toddler again.
Got to change the bedding today and try and get it washed and dried.
Anyhoo enough from me for now.
Hugs to all in need x
    Bright Blessings xx

    Good morning folks.

    Thanks for the thread nmlc.

Yesterday's plans changed slightly, Holmwood House was closed so Alan and I detoured to an old favourite - Hill House in Helensburgh. It was worth going again as it's been enclosed completely in a chain mail box to allow it to dry out. We had a really tasty lunch there too. Mind you the weather was icy cold in the rain coming off the sea so we didn't spend too long in the 'box'. I came home really chilled so sat wrapped round a hot water bottle for a while.

Once I was in my car I realised that my mobile was still in the house so I went back upstairs to collect it quickly. Later on I realised that I'd left the keys sticking in the door! Luckily there's a storm door in front but still...Too much stress I think.

We did a detour to visit a leisure centre in a nearby town, recommended by Camelot; and was very impressed with the building and facilities. I'll give it a wee try.

Today is forecasted to be milder than yesterday. I've got a parcel to collect from Royal Mail delivery office and a little shopping to do. DM's friend is visiting this afternoon so I'll be catching up with recorded programmes.

Now I wish everyone a peaceful and happy Saturday.

    Morning All

Damp and dreary this morning but not too cold.

Had a good trip to Costco yesterday then on to Tesco where I bought some heavily reduced clothes for the DGC, most to put away until later in the year, can't resist a bargain!

Off to DS1s today to see him and the DGC, I've to try to fit a half built cardboard castle into a very small car, it's too big to keep here and DGS does love it. Also going to stop off to drop in bags to a charity shop I favour.

Have a happy Saturday, take care. XX

    Morning :hello:

The decorations are packed away, I just need to find the roll of wide tape to seal the boxes. If we try to lift them into the loft as they are, half of it will fall out, lol. I dusted everything and vacuumed the floors, then lit a scented candle. Everything feels fresh :D I made a start on the main food cupboard, there seems to be plenty to keep us going for a while. Also printed the calendar, that's been filled with birthdays, insurance renewal dates etc. and is hanging on the side of the fridge. I'm exhausted and need a day off :rotfl:

I'll finish that cupboard then go through the freezer. I opened two of the drawers yesterday and shut them again, deciding I just can't deal with that, lol. Things have just been thrown in, mr tru knows I like things tidy in there so I think he's being messy just to wind me up. I'll make a start today, some things from the shed freezer can be brought in to this one, once I see what's what I can make a proper shopping list. I won't be doing much more than that, the new series of NCIS started last night and it's waiting for me to watch :D

Good morning and thank you for starting the thread nmlc.

We had a lovely day here yesterday, clear with some sun at times and a breeze so I got some bedding washed and dried. Cleaned the kitchen again, ironed (!) tidied a bit and went out to buy light bulbs for the kitchen spotlights, OH fitted them as he's a bit taller than me. Made a trauma teddy, I'm doing some for the women's refuges at present to use up various odds and ends as well as the ones for the emergency services.

I've got a big list of things to do over the weekend then must do more paperwork during the week.

I'll take down decorations on Monday 12th night.

Lots of things are starting to come up in the garden, mostly from bulbs but some perennials so I'm hoping that the perennials are really hardy because it is starting to get colder.

I am off to have a shower now, before the house gets cold again.

Hope everyone has a good day

    Hi everyone,

Like some others we took the decs down yesterday, the tree was very tired. I did a cull of them last year so I didn't go through them again.

Apart from that I continued planning the quilt for the baby - it's going to be quite complicated with a lot of applique.

I'm just watching the news from Australia, it's horrible what is happening there and getting worse with the high winds getting up.

I'm sorry for such a boring post absolutely nothing is happening here.
