BT are Cheaper Than TalkTalk for 0845 numbers

If you are on TalkTalk and dial 0845 numbers (and you can't find the normal 01/02 number) you will pay MORE than if you were on BT.

TalkTalk charges - 4.5p daytime & 1.5p evening and weekends
BT charges
3.0p daytime & 1.0p evening and weekends

TalkTalk have confirmed that this will NOT change in the future, and the £1,000 guarantee does NOT include these numbers.

My solution is to sign up to 1899 & 18866, but still keep TalkTalk for free calls between TalkTalk customers. If you go back to BT and forget to use 1899 or 18866 then you will pay more, having said that you can always use the Orchid LCR diallers.

It's bye bye to profits for TalkTalk and BT

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker Car Insurance Carver!
And dial the 1280 prefix when you have to make those 084/087 calls.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

This was discussed in a little more detail here.

In particular the above post mentions that if you use Dialaround.co.uk during the daytime you can dial a 0845 number for 2ppm and a 0870 number for 5ppm. This is better for daytime calls only, during the evening & weekend it may be best to use BT via their override code 1280.

The above method of dialling 0845/0870 during daytime works by dialling the relevant access code for Dialaround which are two different 0844 numbers. These numbers are charged at either 2ppm or 5ppm (depending on access code dialled) from a BT landline and OneTel.

I do not know how much TalkTalk charge for these calls as they don't advertise them so be warned but if you do use TalkTalk then just dial 1280 and the relevant access code for Dialaround and then finally your 0845/0870 number. I realise this is a lot of messing about but unless you use the Orchid Dialler then I don't think much can be done about it unfortunately.

We tried to find out how much Talk Talk charged to phone 0844 numbers but they were very vague about it.As BBB_Uk says use the BT 1280 overide service to be on the safe side.

But dont forget, BT are the cheapest provider of all for dialing 0845/0870 calls during weekday evenings, and at weekends.

I emailed TalkTalk and they have confirmed they charge the same as BT:

"I can confirm that the call charges you require are as follows:
0844 462 is charged at 2p per minute any time of the day
0844 566 is charged at 5p per minute any time of the day"

Thanks for that. Why can't they though advertise the costs to the 0844, personal numbers beginning 07x, premium rate and 0871* like OneTel do here?

    * Not sure if TalkTalk advertise the cost to an 0871 number
