I took my Skoda in today, issue was identified as handbrake cables stretched.

They are stating it needs new handbrake cables, shoes and drums.

The cables are stretched and the shoes and drums are distorted.

£395.

Seems expensive, I priced the parts at eurocar parts at 180.

Any thoughts guys?

    Age and make of Skoda?

  • Never known drums to distort; they should last the life of the car.

It actually sounds quite reasonable if that's an idea of the parts cost.
Garages aren't cheap places to run.

OK I don't really understand how they work, so I'm in their hands with this one.

Thanks, I understand but I'm just a person on the street, those parts from eurocarparts are £94 if I put a discount code in.
Surely I wont get them cheaper than they will.
If thats about right, thats £300 labour.
Whats a standard garage hourly rate?

    Cheers

Well that depends on where you live & how much they can get away with charging.
Local back street (great garage) is £60 a hour here.

Seems Fabia rear drums are well known for issues.

  • My garage lets me purchase the parts and charges to fit. Whereabouts are you located? Ideally source the correct parts, ask for them to be fitted. £50 per hour labour at my local garage and he is very good!
