Plug stuck in basin

Had a shave this morning and filled the basin with water. The plug is one of those spring loaded ones, where you press it down and it seals, then when you are finished, you press it again and it releases only it didn't and is stuck in position. There are no exterior levers to release it, so how do I get the plug out?

If you don't have a rubber handled hammer, undo the U-bend and shove a screwdriver up.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0
