Cheap Energy Group and EDF

Hi all,
For the first time ever I considered swapping supplier having been with EDF for years, however the Cheap Energy Group suggested that EDF had one of the best online tariffs available and would save me around £39 a month so I went with that.
I applied for the tariff and EDF moved me on it a month before my old one expired but kept the direct debit the same. I rang them to ask why nothing was changing and was told its because my next bill is due April and any changes to direct debits would be done then. I said that is ridiculous if I had moved supplier any changes would be immediate. They then said I could get a bill now and that would see if any direct debit changes could be made. The bill has just come in I am £62 in credit and still the direct debit is the same. The unit prices are cheaper then my old tariff so cannot understand why I am not saving anything.
Cheap Energy Group says I have 14 days to withdraw from this tariff yet EDF backdated the tariff start date to 24th Dec so I feel lost as to what I can do?

Hi,
are you sure it was a saving of £39 a month, seems massive, what is your DD?0 -
sorry it was £36 - this is taken from the Cheap Energy Club... Simply Online 1 Year Fix Jan21v3 Saving you £438 Annually/£36 Monthly
I currently pay £105 electricity and £70 gas. This may be high but my husband works at home all day so heating is on constant and devices. Any saving would be nice I wasn't expecting that much but my bills just keep going up0 -
THe savings will be quoted on the basis that once your present tariff expires you will be transferred to the standard tariffs - this can be misleading.
Forget DD's - what are your actual annual consumptions, when does the tariff expire ?
Do your own sums.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
Electric is very high . Have you checked whats using it ??0
-
Sorry to preach, but you need to focus on the details to get a full understanding. Did you read the answer I gave yesterday to your original question in another thread? Basically, ignore any claimed savings (Ofgem's rules are daft), do the sums yourself, and understand that the cost of what you are using and the amount you are paying by fixed DD is not necessarily the same.
Rant over; you must be using electricity for space or water heating. That's nonsensical when you have gas, just compare the cost per kiloWatt hour. Why pay 14p/kWh or whatever for electricity when you could pay around 3p/kWh for gas? Are you using an immersion heater, fan heater, electric fire etc?0 -
thanks Gerry and sorry no I didnt see the reply I thought I had subscribed to the thread. What Robin said above makes total sense now about the savings being against a standard tariff what an idiot I am for not realising. I will look at the calculations against usage. I know I need to look at what is constantly switched on in this house, we dont use electricity for water heating or electric fires heaters etc.
Thanks for your help.0 -
Hi,
what you need to do is take a meter reading each day, both meters, for a week or so, to see if you can identify any spike in usage.
Are you giving your supplier regular readings, at least once a month?0 -
If you have gas and are paying £1260 p.a.for electricity there is something seriously wrong. What is your annual kWh consumption based on actual meter readings, not estimated ones?
Check that the number on the meter is the same as that on your bill. If the meter isn't inside your property, make sure it's really your meter, not a neighbour's.0 -
