Plus the time it takes to pay the cheque in...plus the time it then takes to clear!

Sorry YB not sure where a 'cheque' comes into it?

Say I had £3200 in the Prem CA, I perhaps should have BACS'd £3190 first and then closed the rest of the acc (£10) after.

That way I would have had the bulk of it quicker would I not?

    regards

When I've closed A&L current accounts, they've always sent a cheque for the closing balance.

Not a problem if it's for £1.50 (ie you've emptied the account first), but if it's for £3K+ you then have to get it into another bank, and then wait for it to clear before you can do anything with it...was my point.

Of course, if A&L are BACS transferring your closing balance (are they?) then it isn't a problem.

Yes they will if thats your request or you can have it BACS'd. The latter takes up to 10 days. (so does the cheque method as well I guess by the time you process it etc, as you say).

exactly, thats what I should have done.

That was the whole point of my original post when I said 'I think I may have made a little error', i.e. by requesting closure before I emptied most of the account first.

    Hope that will help someone.

    regards

    Hi knights,

When you call to close the account, they (should have informed you they) need to see a 10 period of inactivity on the account...in case you've issued some cheques or a debit card payment hasn't been processed etc.

Only when this 10 day period of inactivity has elapsed will they either BACS your money or put your cheque in the post.

So, both methods take the same time to initiate, but by BACS'ing your money out you have avoided the issue I had...which was to make a special trip to a bank to deposit a £1.50 cheque!

Are you going back again after 3 months?

Unless A&L have changed their methods, the RS should have automatically been swept into your current account from memory. I'm partway through my second time with them.

Do you mean the 12% is being repeated and rolls over like into a second year?

No mary you have to close the Regular Saver linked account (Premier Current Account) and wait 3 months before you can open another one, assuming it is still available then of course.

Has anyone yet finished their 2 year 8% and then gone onto starting the 1 year one?

No one could have finished their 2 year LTSB monthly saver yet, as the account didn't launch until around 22nd May 2006. Once those accounts mature I can't see there being any problems opening the 1 year account, provided it is still available.
    Please call me 'Kazza'.

Is is possible to have more than one Nationwide Regular Saver? I accidentally opened two (it doesn't show you anywhere that you have a "pending" regular saver & I went online & opened a second one....now they've both appeared).

Like I say, I have two Regular savers showing online & I've been sent two cards etc. I'd be quite happy to have two if it's possible....but is it?

    Thanks
    Fella
