Travel company refusing refund on gift voucher

Can you not just let him believe it has been dealt with? Just accept the money is lost and leave him with the voucher?
Yes I could do that, I just believe that it is morally wrong for them to treat us like this and some of us can’t simply lose that kind of money, we saved up to get my parents this gift and it feels very unfair that they won’t rather than can’t help us.
What the hell happened to customer service.0 -

So far I have failed to get the information required to get the name of the directors and I feel that sending a letter to the address without the correct name is unlikely to get to the desired recipient.
If you look on companies house web site you will the names of the directors. Also, does the company not mention their directors on their web pages?0 -

True, but of course they must have many customers who just lie.How can they know who is telling the truth0 -

This is indeed true sadly although why someone would make up a death in the family is beyond me, however I have already offered to send them a copy of the certificate if proof is what they require, but still they refuse.0 -
I'd just tell him the voucher has been refunded and ask him to bin it / keep it as he sees fit.
Very sorry for your loss, but I'd honestly be tempted to just warn people off the hotel at every opportunity and not worry him with it.0 -

Looking at it from the other side it's morally questionable to use your mother's death to attempt to get a refund your not entitled to under the terms and conditions of the voucher.
There is nothing wrong with asking but they have decided to refuse and their is nothing wrong with that either considering they are running a business.
You also haven't lost any money because you wouldn't have got that money back if the voucher had been used so your no worse off than you were before considering the money has been spent.
Just simply sell the voucher to someone else and get some of the money back that way.0 -

Why? The hotel have done nothing wrong to warrant such a tarring of their reputation. They are running a business, not a charity. They have considered OP's request and decided not to issue a refund OP is not entitled to.
Op hasn't 'lost' anything. The voucher was bought and paid for and remains so whether or not the father or anyone else in the family uses it, OP doesn't now have to pay out for another present to replace the unused one.
That's the problem with gifting vouchers, there is no guarantee they will actually be used. If OP's mother hadn't have died but instead her parents had decided they didn't fancy it and just didn't use the voucher would OP feel entitled to a refund?Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
I would expect the op to be up in arms venting on here if they had agreed to refund but expected a copy of the death certificate and proof that it was gifted to their mother.
If you expect something outside the T&Cs then you have to expect to have to provide proof.0
