Workmates are dropping like flies

Evening all,

This may sound like a silly thing but I am questionning my own mortality at the moment I am not known for loving my job and some of my colleagues are just plain horrid, but this year there has been four of them go down with really quite serious things first lady has luekemia she is 62yrs old her husband has died in recent yrs and I think she still works because she is lonely she will never get better.

Second casualty is a lady aged 47yrs old she got married for the first time ever last year and then got cancer.

Third is a lady aged 58yrs she has bladder cancer has a hubby and no kids.

and this weekend the youngest and someone I happen to like alot has had a heart attack she is 41yrs old in good health and has a 5 yr old son (the same as me) she takes care of herself she has never smoked drinks a little very occasionally and struggles to bring her son up by herself why her?

I know that isn't a question anyone here can answer and I cannot answer it either. Aside from this my BIL has been diagnosed with primary progressive MS a man who has worked for himself all his adult life and he has been signed off sick from the doctor I think how awful that is and I could cry why do awful things always happen at this time of year or is it just that they seem worse?

I am having my own health problems at the moment I am constantly bleeding and despite having been seen by gynae things arent getting any better. I am 25 and I am terrified things are building and I worry about what is wrong with me if anything at all and thats just it you see this has gone on since May without relief and no one takes it seriously apart from me and my hubby I have 2 kids and I worry about what will happen to them should anything happen with me and work just drives it home to me of how fragile your life really is.

Don't really know why I posted this maybe just needed to get it off my chest but if you got this far thanks for listening I suppose it just helps to get it out into words.

Thanks again Poppy x

I find I have periods where I am hyper aware of my mortality - sometimes for no apparent reason but other times when you hear news about people you know or are a similar age and things happening to them. If you couple that with your ill health - it's not surprising you feel vulnerable. I also think worrying about your children - makes you think what would happen to them if anything happened to you.

I think you need to either go back to your doctor and ask for a referral re gynae probs or at least ask to see another doctor in the same practise. You shouldn't have to suffer.
  • Sometimes there are a lot of things happen in a short space of time which draw attention to them - IYSWIM? It's the same idea as if good friends get divorced - it can make you evaluate your own marriage.

As you've had a gynae evaluation, then try to remember that the chances are they would have picked up anything serious. However, ask to see him/her again as there may be treatment offered after this length of time.
