I've spent 4 coupons on 2x 100g of Alafosslopi chunky to knit this cabled hat and mittens pattern.https://ravel.me/lopi-braided-hat-and-mittens it is a free pattern.
I decided to get the Lykke wooden interchangeable needles and have started my collection with the two sizes needed for the pattern above. Apparently KnitPro and Lykke make their cords in the same factory and are the same fitting so I am taking a risk and not replacing the cords just now.
That leaves my cable needle. That is still metal and I will have to use it for these projects. I hope I dont get a flare up again. Does anyone know of an online supplier that would sell wooden or even plastic cable needles?

Have a look on YouTube for video lessons about cabling without a cable needle. I learned in a class a decade ago and it has made a world of difference to my knitting. (The teacher was Annie Modesit, but I don't know if she's put anything on YouTube.) You can always use a wooden DPN or one of the wooden tips that you aren't currently knitting with, but you really don't need to.

catherinekate said:Things are feeling pretty normal here: toddler back at nursery and I'm back in the office, we didn't have much of a social life anyway! (see toddler reference!) I've even had a scout around my favourite charity shop, fully masked up, although mysteriously the clothes prices seem to have increased since March so came away with only bric a brac.
At least life must feel a bit more normal now for you.

PS: The only thing surprising about yesterday's face-covering announcement about compulsory masking up in shops was how long it took for the Government to get around to making it.

I have finally made a blouse - I made a "wearable toile" ie it's a practice-shot but using fabric that is good enough to be a wearable garment. I did a straight-copy of an existing blouse, and am happy with it except the sleeves which were always a bit wrong in the original. So at this point I shall stop doing the straight copy, happy with the overall thing, and do new sleeves instead
I still have buttonholes and buttons to do, once the sleeves are sorted, and the hem, but all the fiddly uncertain bits are done.
The actual colours are cream and a quite lively sky-blue but in this photo it looks very like off-white and grey-blue, which kept reminding me of something... what was it... a blouse striped like that, from long, long ago...???

I love that school photo. You look so cute with those plaits. Well done on making such quick progress with your blouse. I am a bit of a slow crafter myself. I seem to get easily distracted unless all chores are done.I have a spend to report. I having been getting really uncomfortable with my bras so I thought I better go and invest in some now the shops are open. I found 7 I liked which weren't too badly priced and they are a much more comfortable fit than my current ones. I worked that out to be 10.5 coupons spent. It seems to be a bit of an expensive year this year where coupons are concerned. It seems to be mostly on outdoor wear (I bought a coat and knee high boots in the winter) and underwear. At least these purchases are investment items which should last me many years (here's hoping anyway).

Now that's a school photo. You've sewn a lovely shirt @Laura_Elsewhere.4

My school blouse was gold ie orange stripes! No chance of me making anything looking remotely like that!!
( And the blazer was brown, royal blue and gold stripes. The horror.....)It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!2 -
The blouse looks good, @Laura_Elsewhere. I love the school photo, too.
@maryb, I can’t imagine how your school blouse co-ordinated with your blazer.
I spent two years at the local high school. Our school jumper, slacks and blazer were bottle green (almost “British racing green”), with a white shirt. Although it looks good on me, I hated bottle green for years and would never wear it. I only started wearing green when I bought a short fitted jacket with black collar and trim in the 1990’s. It came with a coordinating check skirt and I wore them both to death, sometimes swapping the skirt for a kilt. (Sadly, the jacket and skirt were victims of The Great Moth Attack of 2015 and are no more.)
@CraftyLittleLisa, think of the coupons you spent on bras as an investment. Good foundation wear is important. You will wear them for two or three years, possibly longer if you are really careful laundering them.
