The problem with sizing crochet hooks is that it's apparently the neck that is sized, not the shaft or hook... not that I really bother with sizes. I can't read crochet patterns, only charts, so I just choose one that looks about right for the thread or yarn I want to use, and see how it goes, and if needs be try another one...
In other news, it turns out my parents didn't put 'our' Xmas present money into my account, which we then jointly spent on a present to us both (a Sodastream!) - it turns out they put that amount of money into *each* of our accounts, but each of us thought we'd got the joint amount... so now I have some money to spend, and they say I can use their coupons - and then they want to know what I want for my birthday in the first week of January...!
I am very tempted to buy a dozen very lovely French linen crochet-lace threads from Ewe & Ply. I have 3, in gorgeous colours, and would love more... but I'm also contemplating lashing out wildly for trousseau purposes on some really good fabric for blouses...2025 remaining: 37 coupons from 66:

(That’s a rhetorical question, Laura, I’m not demanding of you to define it. It’d be different for each manufacturer.)
That was a really lovely surprise from your folks.

My guess is that for your birthday, you want a dozen, very lovely, French linen, crochet-lace threads from Ewe & Ply. They would be coupon free for you, if your parents bought them. If Ewe & Ply don’t do distance selling, you can always ask them to make an exception for your birthday, set the whole thing up (packaging and price) and then get your parents to phone up and pay over the phone, using a code word so that Ewe & Ply know who they are and that it is your present they are buying.
Have you worked out your coupons for this year? My bet is that you haven’t spent nearly as many as you think you have.

The neck is the bit between the hook and the shaft, of course
See the hook? That's the hook. And that shaft bit there, that's the shaft. Now, see the bit between them that is neither? THAT is the neck!
Glad to help. No, really. Any time. No need to thank me

@PipneyJane I think you're right about Ewe & Ply's gorgeous linen threads.... and they do truly excellent mail-order, right down to one of the two of them handwriting a little message to you, and usually something on the outside like "another bundle of squishy loveliness!", and they pop in a little herbal teabag, and a little thing of that wool-washing stuff that you warned us against using so I haven't, keep meaning to ask them about it...
I just have to try and choose the colours now, argh!!! Twelve out of the 46 solid shades, heeeelp...! https://eweandply.co.uk/collections/notions-and-sundry-items/products/fil-au-chinois2025 remaining: 37 coupons from 66:

I work in a church. And the bulletins for Sunday aren't printed, much less proofed. And my assistant is out of town.
