Ongoing insurance car fire. Renewal

Hello everyone I would like some advice please. My BMW set on fire a couple of weeks ago and my insurance took it away but havnt heard much still waiting for an inspection to be done. In the terms and conditions it looks like they won't cover mechanical or electrical fires. I have bought a new car and I want to get a different insurer but I'm not sure whether I have to declare the car fire with the new insurance as I'm most likely not going to get a pay out so there would be no claim. Any advice on this?

Of course you have to declare it as an incident, currently as pending decision as well, which will increase it a lot. Iif it ends up as no payout that should improve things though. If you must use a new provider choose one that does not charge for changes as you will end up needing to make one.0

So I have to declare it even tho I'm 99% sure I won't be getting a payout which will mean there will be no claim made? Seems ridiculous to me.0

You have still made a claim. Getting a payout has nothing to do with it.0

Answer all questions truthfully when buying new car insurance, which includes any accidents or claims regardless of fault or whether you got your money back, anything else it is fraud.
It isn't ridiculous, it is what their asking, you can go to another insurer if you don't like it, but most have similar questions, it's about risk profiling, you are more likely to have a claim than someone who hasn't had a claim in the last 3-5 years and that is fact."It is prudent when shopping for something important, not to limit yourself to Pound land/Estate Agents"

You said it was set on fire - you mean an arson attack?
That's neither mechanical nor electrical, but it should be immediately obvious whether the policy includes it or not? This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
