MR16 LED bulb question

We inherited a kitchen with 16 x 12v MR16 bulbs, but they are the warm yellow colour and a couple have started to fail. Ive tried an LED 12v MR16 as a replacement but its the type where you can see all of the little yellow squares (unsure of technical term :o ) exposed on it.

When i fit the lamp retaining spring clip, it is touching some of the yellow 'squares'

Is this an issue?

As long as the retaining clip does not touch any of the metal contacts on either side of the chip LEDs it should be fine.

Incidentally, are you replacing with those LED ones because you already have them? Most modern ones have a diffuser/lens in front.

Thanks Myser, I had 2 or 3 of the old 'yellow square exposed' ones laying around, cheapies from China just to see if they worked and if I prefer white/cool white as well (I think 6000k). Which I do

I'm going to order up 16 new 7w LED MR16's, so will go for the more modern looking ones with a larger, single 'yellow square' and a lense over it

For what it's worth, the little yellow squares are the actual LEDs, or more precisely, the LEDs with little blobs of yellow phosphor on the front of each one.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.
