Littlewoods own Great Universal who in turn owns Argos & Homebase. They used to own the Index catalogue stores which are closed now.

Littlewoods are part of the Littlewoods Shop Direct Group www.lwsdg.co.uk , Argos/Homebase which are now the Home Retail Group is a separate organisation.

If you are worried about any organisation checking your file, it maybe a precursor to granting a loan, store card, credit card etc.

To deter fraudulent applications and protect yourself visit www.freeidprotection.co.uk

I'm hoping Martin will take a look at the system and add it to best practise on his article on the HMRC data breach.

Sorry, but this is ridiculous and won't offer any protection whatsoever. Lenders lend on their terms, not yours. Sure you can add any note you want onto your credit file, but if you then sign a credit agreement that states that only your signature is required then, well, that's all that's required.

The best way to stay clear of fraud is to check your statements thoroughly, check your credit file once or twice a year, and report anything you don't recognise immediately.

Neil Munroe, external affairs director at Equifax, said: "It is the responsibility of the lenders to act upon the information on an individual's credit report, but we think this new initiative will play a valuable role in reducing the opportunities for fraudsters."

    Article here: From Saturday's Telegraph.

    Does the concept work?

Check out this little lot: Click here.

You have a choice if you want to use this system or not. Crooks don't have a choice.

I'd suggest it's a great way of securing your credit files.

Maybe Martin would like to comment?

[/quote]None of those links are relevant, and anyway most are either in another country or well before chip & PIN was introduced. I'm not getting sucked into an argument, so I'll just stand by my previous post.Anyway, here's a link to the brands Littlewoods trades under. Any chance you've used any of these? Even if you just asked for a catalogue they'll probably have done a credit search.
