Shortening my 0% B.T offer for no reason

My credit card provider has sent me an email today saying that my 0% offer is coming to an end 10 months early (almost half way through the introductory offer period) without any reason and without me missing any payments. It feels almost like a scam/trick tactic.
My question is can they really do that? Are they in contract to fulfill they're offer?
I'm thinking of calling them but what if they say they can't do anything about it and their decision is final. What should I do then?

No, they cannot usually change the terms of the contract once you have entered into it (save, for example, where you have already breached the terms)

I suggest you give them a call in the first instance to better understand the situation.

Then if you still have cause for complaint, follow the card provider's complaint procedure.
  • Usually any introductory offers may be withdrawn if you miss payments, make late payments or exceed the credit limit. If none of that has happened, then it could be out of order.

Call them and ask them for the reason. If it is unsatisfactory, make a written complaint (online form or email as per their complaints procedure described on the website). Or better still, use the MSE Resolver tool.

If they give you an unsatisfactory "final response" or 8 weeks pass without closure, you should escalate the complaint to the Financial Ombudsman Service. The MSE Resolver tool will guide you on this.

I would suggest also double checking the actual offer you got at the start in the paperwork. Often credit cards will advertise e.g. 26 months but then offer a shorter period to people who don't qualify for the longer period. I often see posts here for a similar situation with loans where the banks offer 1 interest rate and they have offered a higher rate to the person.

Do they actually say it is ending early? Or they are telling you it is ending, and the end date is earlier than you expected?

There have been cases where people applied on the basis of a particular offer, but then got a different one without realising. In one case I remember, a "click through" wasn't working properly so the application page that opened was for a different deal. It could also be because that the lender was offering a deal based on the idea that if you didn't "qualify" for the best offer, they would offer you a card on different terms, eg higher APR or shorter offer.

Do you have the original paperwork/emails from when the account was set up? Do the statements (?PDF) you have received give the end date of the offer and if so what do they say?
  • There’s no trick or scam lol

Check what you actually signed up for to begin with - you may not have been offered the advertised term

do your previous statements show an end date for the intro offer?
  • Thank you so much everyone for your replies.
I phoned them and it turns out that I had two separate offers when I applied for the credit card. One is for balance transfer and one is for money transfer.
My money transfer is half the period of my balance transfer which I had completely forgotten about because I didn't actually use the money transfer option.
So the email they sent was to inform me that this period is coming to an end and luckily it doesn't affect me because I only use the balance transfer.

Thank you so much again for your replies.
