Wet room vs shower tray

Hi all,
Wondering if anyone can help. We are renovating our bathroom as cost effectively as possible. The current bathroom has a wet room shower installed for the previous owner approx 10 years ago. We have pulled up the textured vinyl floor and the base looks intact.
We are unsure what is the best way to proceed, can we retank the base and lay tiles over although I presume we would need a new drain to accommodate the tiles? Are we best using a shower tray to cover instead?
Any advice welcome before we have to call a plumber in!
I have photos although unfortunately I am unable to attach.

Is it a first floor bathroom? Or suspended timber ground floor or a solid ground floor?
The best option is probably a new Altro vinyl floor there’s loads of colours available.0 -
Thanks for your reply, it’s a first floor bathroom.
It will either be mosaic tiled or a slate effect tray, we pulled up the vinyl as it was difficult to keep clean and the the rest of the bathroom will be fully tiled.0 -
Mosaic tile is more of a pig to keep clean than vinyl is. The grout will discolour pretty quickly. I would rather put anything on the floor than mosaic in a wet room. I usually choose a larger format floor tile for minimum cuts.
As far as cost goes, the hardest work of producing a wet room has been done. The cost isn't going to hugely different either way, but the wet room will look more expensive.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.
