Moving house and energy company?

I'm moving house next moth. Looking at the Which switching tool, there's loads of energy deals that are at least 25% cheaper than my current Scottish Power deal. So I'm thinking of changing to a new supplier at the new place. I note that SP have exit fees of £60 but some sort of concession if you're moving house?
What's the best way forward for me?
Thanks!

At your new place you must first contact the existing supplier and give them meter readings. You are then free to switch.
Don't forget to give final readings at your old place.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
Thanks. I tried the moving process on the SP site and it started asking for my new address and how I wanted to pay. Looks like they want to keep me as a customer :-((My username is not related to my real name)0

As per the Scottish Power website, exit fees will not be applied if you move house.
Once you move out, call them to give final meter readings and ask them to close your account. If pressed, tell them clearly that you do not want to move to Scottish Power at your new property.
Once in the new property, use the MSE cheap energy club to get the best deal for you and switch.0 -

Scottish Power DO NOT charge the exit fee if you are moving home. So that shouldn't be a consideration at all. Neither are you obligated into using them at the new property.
What they are trying to do is bounce you into using them at the new property. Don't let them do it.
The best way forward for you (imho) is to wait till you leave the property, call Scottish Power, give them your final meter readings and ask them to close your account, issue a final bill.
Tell them you do not intend to use SP at the new place or that you aren't responsible for the bills, etc.
At the new property, use the which comparison or MSE energy club to identify the best value supplier for you and switch to them.peterhjohnson wrote: »I'm moving house next moth.
