Flight change meaning long stopover

Options
After some advice. In September hubby & I booked premium economy return flights to Hong Kong/Australia to visit relatives/friends. We found out last night that Cathay Pacific have made an alteration to the first leg of our return flight from Adelaide to Manchester - we are now due to leave at 21:30 on 27/8 instead of 13:30 on 28/8 - however the second flight remains the same, meaning that instead over a just over 4.5 hour stopover we now have 20 hours between flights. We are staying in Hong for a few nights on the way out so had booked return flights with a short stopover. Could anyone advise where we stand with this change, thank you.

Have a look on the Cathy website to see if there is an alternative flight that suits you better. The flight change will have been managed by a computer rather than with human interaction. If you find something more suitable then call and ask them to change you on to the one your prefer. You may however be limited with HKG MAN options unless you wish to go via LHR and transfer from there up to HKG.

Have you thought about keeping the new flight and perhaps staying at the airport hotel? Check your bags, head into town for lunch/dinner/walk on the Airport Express, then back to grab a few hours sleep in a real bed before the HKG MAN flight.

Other option - but I am sure you won’t want it, I expect CX would offer you a refund on the round trip flight given the much longer layover on the return sectors.

Contact the airline to see what your options are, Iceland air altered our return flights from Orlando to Iceland but kept us on the the same Iceland to Glasgow flight a full day later, they said thaat we could alter the full return journey to any day +-7 days from the original flight or the would give us $240 to cover having to stay overnight in Iceland.

Will Cathy Pacific not give you a hotel room for that length of stop over?

Thanks for your replies, apparently Cathay don't offer hotel, looking at our options as the new date means we now only have 2 days in Adelaide with our friends (though we are doing the Great Ocean Road with them) The other alternative seems to be flight on 30/8, so may be going for this. Just means hubby having to take another day off work as we would land back in UK on the Monday instead of Saturday.
