DWP data breach

June 2018 I received a call from someone I do not know telling me they had received my complete data (Sar) that the dwp hold on me , he got my number from the information he had ! It was addressed to them , this person lives miles away from me too , I contacted the DWP as to what is going on ! The full information was collected , I contacted my local mp to investigate , I was to,d this was being done and as I had never requested my information from them , it was as they said applied on line from an encrypted email address so could not be traced , my MP was involved and I was told in a phone call in sept 2018 that I would receive the full investigation and redress for this serious data breach , I have not herd a word since !!
This at the time made me seriously ill as I suffer from PTSD and anxiety , I have been chasing since last Dec 2018 as her day nothing ! Managed to get hold of someone this Dec to be told oh we don’t have any info as it’s been distroyed , told them I do I have the letters from you and the letter you sent my MP ! Which I emailed them a copy , I was to receive a call back two weeks ago to no avail ...... contacted to day to be told they are not back in the office until the 6 jan . Any advice would be greatfully received as to where to go with this .
Many thanks

Have you complained to the Office of the information commissioner?0

What outcome are you looking for?
Chances are you will get "this was a mistake for which we apologise. Training will be issued and data protection principles will be re-visted and looked at".0 -
Time to just put this one behind you.0

Not yet but just looked at that so I will in the morning0

Or.....issue a small claims for about £500 for failing to protect personal data.
The ICO (as mentioned above) is fully supportive. They have even put up a page
https://ico.org.uk/your-data-matters/data-protection-and-journalism/taking-your-case-to-court-and-claiming-compensation/Unlike some here, I am not omniscient. If I am wrong correct me. I won't take offence.
The law is like an ocean - have a swim but don't drown.0 -
Realistically I was promised monetary redress , and an explanation and apology to which I still have not received0

Where you can sue, I would suggest that you do because having to pay compensation is usually the only form of 'punishment' that will persuade an organisation that it needs to improve its processes.
The ICO page given above seems to give you all the information you need to sue in the small claims court. The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.0 -

Presumably at least a response from DWP and / or their MP. From their post it would seem that they have received neither. Yes, mistakes happen, but the issue shouldn't be brushed aside so easily. I worked for DWP for several years so understand the pressure staff are under, so not criticising any individual for this, but something clearly went very wrong.0 -
OP this happened 18 months ago, I think for the sake of your health maybe its time to forget it and move on.0

What material loss have you suffered, and what outcome are you hoping for?0
