Overdraft for direct debits

Hi,

I’m pretty sure this is fine but do you ever get when you start to overthink something really simple and completely over complicate it?

I have about £800 worth of direct debits due in the next few days but only around £500 in my account. Christmas etc  I have a planned overdraft of £1000. Will the bank (Nationwide) let direct debits go out using a planned overdraft? They’d only bounce them if it was to go into unplanned right?!

Sorry I know this seems so basic but I’ve worked myself up lol. Thanks in advance!

They'll pay your DDs as scheduled, and you will pay them overdraft charges as agreed
  • They will allow payments up to your overdraft limit and sometimes over, with extra fees.

Get out of the overdraft as quickly as possible.
  • Thanks very much for the replies. I knew that was the case but just doubting myself. Was worried that all new changes to overdrafts maybe meant dd’s wouldn’t be paid using them or something.

Have never used it before but I guess that’s what it’s there for, a short term way to bridge the loooong January pay gaps. Aiming to clear it ASAP
