Warm home payments, a scam???
I'm with eon, and this is the first year I have applied for warm home discount. I got it within 2 days of applying which I thought was great. Since getting the payment I have seen an increase in the amount of electricity that is being used. I am with family most of the day so no electricity being used I get home between 4 and 7pm and go to bed at 9.30pm, yet I am using at least twice if not more than I was before I got the payment. Has anyone else seen an increase.

And your factual evidence is... ? :huh:0

Ledyparse - my first thoughts are lots of estimated readings and an eventual reading from a meter reader leading to a catch up bill and new DD's
Can you post your meter readings please for the last 12 months and make sure you include the letters A (actual) E (estimated) or C (consumer).
You do read your meters don't you ?Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
Ledyparse,
GOV decides and applies an automated remedy via DWP who is "fuel poor" it calls this the 'core group'. Clearly you are one of the 'broader group lottery'
- different sellers are allowed to use varying criteria to select 'broader' group allicants
- different sellers are allowed to use different 'apply' now dates
You are conflating several different things. To understand and begin to tackle your problem you need to tell the group:
- about your dwelling, inhabitants, EPG, glazing, insulation etc
- type of heating
- tariff name, annual cost, distribution area code, your 6 week meter reads etc
Lots of people here to help, don't understand - ask the group my friend. Best of luck.Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. Complete an utter scam.
The energy fairies arrive in the mid of night and doubles the speed of everyone's meter who are paid. And those who are paid within 48 hours of application sometimes have their meter set to run even faster. I read about it on t'internet!
I blame the fairies...0 -
You are barking up the wrong tree here.
Your extra energy use is nothing to do with your warm home payment.
You need to look around for anything that has been accidentally left switched on for example or any appliances that may be faulty and drawing more power.0 -
You haven't given us any indication of the timescale involved nor how you heat your home. But as it's now colder and darker than a few months ago, it's hardly surprising that your electricity usage has increased !0

Hello Ledyparse and welcome to the Forums.
Already some great advice on here - thanks all. As RelievedSheff says, there's no connection between Warm Home Discount and your energy usage.
Like others have said, make sure the bills are based on actual and not estimated readings. If they're estimated, please let us have readings and we'll be happy to rebill to these.
Taking regular meter readings will help you understand where the energy is being used. See if there are any unexplained spikes where things might've been inadvertently left switched on. For instance, we've seen electric water immersion heaters left on 24/7. I'm not saying this applies to you, it's just something we've come across many times in the past.
Hope this helps point you in the right direction Ledyparse.
