Barclays account - money appeared in account

  • If the events happened as explained by the OP, then I would say the OP suffered detriment or at the very least undue stress and concern due to this presumed bank error. It would be worth getting at the very least an explanation from the bank about what happened, and if appropriate (e.g. if you incurred overdraft or unpaid item fees as a result) ask for some kind of redress. Of course the situation could be very different to the scenario described.

And to second YorkshireBoy, banks are allowed to unilaterally reverse errors made in customers' favour without seeking permission. And to approach it from the opposite angle, it's a criminal offense to keep money you aren't entitled to.
    : )
  • This is the way I see it - if OP was expecting funds from J Bloggs then J bloggs would have been used as a statement reference or at least an invoice number os something that could connect the funds from J Bloggs.
What we don't know here is what statement reference was used?
A random figure (we now know to be a mistake) and OP seemed to think it was his.

OP it does not add up at all?

Or even if it made it to a statement.

If what the Op said is true, then it should show a credit & a reversal of the amount.

It must have made it to a statement because he manage to spend it on 'bills' before it was withdrawn again.

Some banks (I know Lloyds banking group used to do this) will reflect the available balance for money paid in on weekends but not the actual transaction on the mobile banking app. This is because funds paid in after close of day on Friday will go in on the next working day which is Monday. The website however displays the transactions till Monday.

No that I am saying this is what happened to the poster.
