I just want some advice. Based on Poor math I went over my credit card limit by £1.69.

I have been charged a £12 Fee (Understandable) but have also had my 0% interest for 21 Months promotion removed and charged £68 in interest.

My gripe is the lack of communication. I wasn't notified when I went over the limit. I wasn't notified when I was charged £12. I wasn't notified that the promotion had ended. The advisor agreed that these hadn't been done as it's not "Policy".

I asked, if I had been made aware at the time of being £1.69 over, and applied a £1.69 payment to my account to match this, would I have been charged anything and had my promotion removed. The answer was No.

I don't often make mistakes, but I was under the impression (at least by experience of other financial institutions) that they had to send correspondance for this type of thing?
I get what i want. That isn't because i'm a brat or spoilt. It's because i'm determined, i work hard for it and i achieve my goals!

  • Doesn't specify anything about their contact towards me. Doesn't specify anything about Promotions ending.

I do not believe they are required to notify you of either the promotion being terminated or the £12 fee, as that would all be in your terms and conditions. Just so you know, they will also record a negative marker on your credit file(s)

If it were, I would ring them again. I would ask them to reinstate your promotional window as you have made an honest mistake. It would be a goodwill gesture though. You will have to be real apologetic and polite. Stress to them that you have learned an important lesson in how to manage a credit card account and that you will not make the same mistake again.
I work within the voluntary sector, supporting vulnerable people to rebuild their lives.

    I love my job
