Why wont my Lloyds online bank service let me view CC transfer options ?

I have banked with Lloyds since 1989. I have a Platinum Visa CC with a nil balance that has a credit limit of £12000. I havent used it since early 2019. I left my job in June 2019 and took a lump sum which we have used to build a new home. When I applied for a home loan in October 2019 I was told that I cant have one because my household income has dropped due to me only now having a part time job. They said that I could try again in Feb/March 2020 as they would consider me "stable" by then. My hubby still has his own high flying job although we used almost all of our savings on the build. I carried on using my other CC but when I came to transfer the balance, the options that were on my Lloyds card are no longer accessible. I get the message "sorry, this service is unavailable" when I click on the balance transfer option. It has been like this since early November.

Is anyone else experiencing that ? Or has the refusal of a loan meant that they have decided to hide my card deals. I would feel happier if its said " we cannot offer you any deals at present"...its such a strange message to keep receiving.

  • It’s a default message not one tailored to individuals.
  • Not much help to the OP but, I have a Platinum Mastercard (not Visa) card and when I select the three dots there is a "Balance and money transfers" option. When selected, this brings up "Your transfer options".
This is when using the Android app.
With online banking there is a purple coloured option, on the right, in the CC section, for the same thing.
To answer "Is anyone else experiencing that ?" - no, not me at least.

Most likely given the conversation you had with them earlier on in the year, that you would need to speak to them again.
Look at it from their point of view.
Drop in your income (partner will not count on your credit card) high limit.
They will not really want to offer you a way to get deeper into debt with no way out on a lower income.

Declined loan application due to change of circumstances has resulted in further consequences. Should not be surprising. Bank is simply acting prudently.
  • You may have had offers previously, as their system had details of your previous salary.

Now you have applied for a loan and gave them your current, lower salary. They would have updated their records accordingly which may be the reason you don't currently have any offers available.

Just because your current bank is not willing to lend/give you offers, doesnt mean that another credit provider won't.

You can perfom elgibility searches for say, a new credit card. This will not affect your credit as they only perfom a "soft search'.

As you are looking for a balance transfer card and you are currently with Lloyds, this rulse out any of the HBOS group such as Halifax, MBNA, Bank of Scotland, Sainsburys.

Some eligibility checkers will give you an indiacation of possible credit limit if accepted. The ones that do this that are not part of the HBOS group are; Nationwide, Natwest, RBS, Ulster. I am sure there are a few others that do this.
