Sony RM-U45 for surround sound

Our remote for the Sony HTK-250 surround system is basically knackered. It has been dropped a few times and now, even with new batteries is not responding. The remote has the code RM-U45, but I cannot currently find any for sale and the Sony online site is no help either.
Does anyone know of people who recondition remotes, because I doubt if a universal remote will work on my system.
