Tyres put on back instead of front by National Tyres

On the 14th November 2019 I ordered on line 2 x tyres for my Ford Fiesta. 2 Day's later I went into the Branch in Barnsley South Yorkshire for them fitting as I have done before. Went to reception with my order number, they checked they had them in stock. He asked me if the tyre were for front or the back, I said front, this would be obvious to a mechanic, the tyres were now illegal with the tread or thereabouts. Came away and went back to work. On Christmas day I went to pick my daughter up, the warning light was on, saying to check my tyres, called at the local Petrol station and used the air pump, front offside was down to 19 put some air in and came home. When my ex-husband called later to see the kids I asked him to take a look. He said did I know my tyres were very worn, I sai they cant be, only had new ones put on 6 weeks ago, he said they are very worn and more than likely illegal. I checked my invoice on the advice of my Ex, see what brand they had put me on. The brand wasn't on my front but on my back. Looks like they have put the tyres on the back of the car and not the front like I had asked, surely they had seen the front were illegal, they are suppose to check all the tyres and report back if any need attention. I have rung today, explained, they said they will get back to me, I've heard nothing, will ring again tomorrow just want to know where I stand, please. Any help would be appreciated. Regards Donna

Some advice: pay attention in school as the holidays are nearly over.0

Are you sure they did not swap the back to front and the fronts have worn out ? Are you sure you have not knocked your suspension out and it is wearing the fronts badly ? I doubt even the dumbest tyre fitter would have made that sort of rookie mistake. How has it taken you this long to notice, it should have taken no more than a week.0

Quite a quandry.
While they have made amistake your old tyres are now gone and I would say the best you are going to get is another pair at cost.
I would have noticed this as soon as I saw the car though, as would I hope most people. I guess though some people are oblivious to car stuff. (white sealing goop around the wrong tyres would be a dead givaway though!).0 -
Yeah, personally don't believe it, if tyres were that badly worn, you'd notice, also as the car will have alloys usually you see where the break-dust has come off when the wheel has been handled, so you'd see this on the rear wheels, as well as the brand new tyre.0

I don't believe this. You can see instantly new tyres on your car.0

this would be obvious to a mechanic
Except this is a tyre fitter.... Who seem to want to fit new tyres to the rear wheels these days... You have to stand and watch and then check that they have fitted the correct tyres anyway.
Odd thing is they must have been very busy to miss the other 2 badly worn tyres...Life in the slow lane0 -
Not sure I believe it either and even if true , you should have checked your tyres sooner than when asked by your husband after 6 weeks!
If you had checked as soon as they were fitted you could have sorted it with them , now I fear they won’t believe you .0 -
I just didn't look at the tyres, I just reversed off the premises and went back to work, I have had tyres fitted at that branch half a dozen times in the past, never checked them before. In insight knowing what I know now yes I should have checked, I put my trust in the "professionals" I questioned why they wouldn't have checked all 4 tyre tread they usually do, he said that he had wondered the same. To make matters even worse I have had new brake pads fitted and discs 2 weeks after this at motosave, they too never mentioned anything regarding my front tyres having no tread. So obviously no one it seems check the tread on tyres anymore0

Well you certainly didnt.
My front dipped below 2mm on the front (my tread limit) and I could feel the difference in grip and certainly when I had the new ones fitted.
Pretty confident you havent checked tyre pressures in 6 weeks at least.
I always check new tyres to make sure they are on the right axle and to check rotational direction indicators.
Also its pretty obvious where the new tyres are as you see the white tyre mounting paste on the new tyres.0 -

New tyres should always be put on the rear first, for safety reasons. The existing rears would be put on the front.0
